Denmark selling Greenland to the USA would actually be a smart decision because they're never going to do anything with it, let just be honest. But they won't sell because it's a butthurt prestige thing, on top of the hiney holocausting they exhibited during WW2 and beyond when Americans used Greenland as a military base for nuclear weapons to be used against Russia (without their consent). It is very rich in rare earth metals and other untapped natural resources.
This issue is that currently these resources are are not economically recoverable due to the the extreme climate conditions there however future technologies are likely to change that.
The reason he is so interested now is also due to China's interest and involvement in lobbying the government of Greenland to give them control of mining the resources and giving them a near monopoly of some rare earth metals.
They are using there debt trap tactics as well offering to finance new airports.
