Universal welfare over a long enough period should end up having a net neutral effect on prices, but it would take decades of fluctuation to get there. Prices normalizing around universal welfare would not lead to people having more purchasing power. There is no safety net there. A safety net is people saving their own wages , families providing for their children, passing on a family home.

maybe companies pledge their automation profits to competing UBI funds for distribution, this would replace corporate taxation, each person signs up to a UBI fund they think will support them best, if they are mistreated, or the fund goes bust, they can switch to another, and that way there's no gov deciding whether you live or die because you didn't say 'maam' to someone at gamestop

if it doesn't work out, then the payouts for everyone decreases automatically and we would be forced to find work anyway with time to adjust with minimal sudden impact to the economy

UBI costs 12k per adult citizen. So 12k × 230m = 2.8t
We spend (over) 2 trillion on social security + Medicare (not even counting education, food stamps and housing). Those benefits are, as outlined above, non-stacking. Whatever benefits people get from welfare are subtracted from the 2.8t cost of UBI. For example, a guy getting 1500 from social security gets nothing from UBI while a guy getting 800 from social security gets 200 from UBI.
