It simply cannot be scaled to the size of modern nation states. The interest of rural farmers differs so much from that of urban factory workers. Policy-makers may have never even *seen* a farm, let alone know what it takes to run one efficiently. Yet they will be the ones making these decisions. I won't even get in to the corruption and favoritism that very much creates a ruling-class every bit as exploitative as any Capitalist system.

Until there is a massive leap forward in technology akin to Roddenberry's replicator (cheap energy-to-matter conversion), human self-interest is here to stay. One system is essentially founded on that fact. The other hopes to break you of it, or make you die trying.
