Not sure if there is a RIGHT answer. There are lots of showplaces, but when you live in here it doesn't matter. I know a lot of ppl from StP who have no visited any museum or smth Road are good generally unless you go far away from city center (as everywhere). Also there are some criminal regions where you better not to go (as everywhere). The only thing that distinct StP from other RU cities that a strongly associated pair "drugs-art" exists here.
