For the most part, the "alternative" can't even fill a fraction of China's manufacturing capability. Vietnam, Mexico, India don't have anywhere near the workforce size, training, or logistics to handle what China can.

I would imagine that many companies executives live in a bubble of information that have advisors and public relations people on board, who help guide them with making decisions based on "market trends" and "public sentiment," that are based more on statistics rather than observation of society, and this often leads to foolish business decisions. I would also imagine that every time anyone even thinks about bucking the trend, that is a boss, CEO, w/e, that there is some opportunistic lefty fuck just waiting to use the "that's racist" card to try and steal their position out from under them too.
