Scholars disagree with that simplistic view. The leaders of Japan had endured worse bombings for years at the hands of the Americans.
They were shocked and dismayed at the invasion by the Soviets. Fear of what might happen to the Emperor and the loss of their army in China.
It's American fantasy that their mighty bombs they only had 3 of ended Japanese resistance.

Not sure if the Soviets prompted the Japanese surrender in general so much as it prompted them to surrender only to the Western Allies.
