Why did people in the 1990's seem to have a much healthier relationship with their cellphones/smartphones than people today? There didn't seem to be the same kind of obsessive-compulsive ADDICTION to those devices back then. What caused this to change?

Because they were just a phone instead of a computer that can also call people?
Going to try and tell me no one in the 90's had an unhealthy obsession with computers?
Old phones were functional first, not Facebook machines. The most distracting thing they had to offer was snake and brick
Social media is a cancer to society.
>Going to try and tell me no one in the 90's had an unhealthy obsession with computers?
If Lord Terry didn't suffer that affliction, none did.
There were internet-capable cellphones in the 1990's.
Old phones were purely functional and you needed to have above average iq to use anything besides the basics
Damn I loved PSION OS so much.
There were no psychological tricks involved with the design of the phones and their apps
Mobiles these days aren't just phones, they're used for everything.
they were hardly ubiquitous nor as nigger-friendly as today
Because they were a luxury item then.
porn retard
they were a huge pain in the ass to use, type with, nothing was supported so you basically couldn’t do anything and it was slow as fucking shit.
Imagine squinting at the comic sans 90s internet all day on this thing. More trouble and money than it's worth. Phones back then advertised features like thin and good keyboard
All they did was call or tell you to call someone (pagers).
Holy shit I had one of those on the left! Kek!
>pagers
kek i was young when these things still existed and got one in the 5th grade that you could change the face on to make it different colors. that was my first “cell phone”
>people in the 1990's
Have you ever seen a 90s cellphone?
*unzips pants*
>Why did people in [era] seem to have a much healthier relationship with their [technology] than people today?
The answers are all there, some people just refuse to swallow the tedpill. They don't want to feel like hypocrites because once you take the tedpill, you are awaken to each and every way technology is taking over humanity. You become aware of your addictions, see how society is so atomized, become fearful of what unintended (and intended, though covertly) consequences new technologies will bring.

because the current tech is literally demonic
The most advanced you could do was send a text message and call somebody.
A very few people had what you have in that picture a a Nokia Communicator aka the baller phone.
Nokia made all sorts of sizes just to cater to diffrent markets, some quite nifty ones as well, the status was more about having a cool phone than what it could do, because every phone basically did the same thing.
It was all just so new back then. Shit did not get crazy until Apple/Android were everywhere combined with Social media. I was one of the first to have a HTC G1 and when i went on vacation i used google maps and GPS, no one else around me had one, now loads off people walk around checking google maps
Yes, but most couldn’t connect to wifi and data rates were very prohibitive.
BECAUSE NIGGERS COULDN'T AFFORD THE INTERNET UNTIL 2008 YOU STUPID FUCK!
I remember buying a $20 Casio data thingie in K-mart in 1997 and thinking it was the shit because it could store messages and it was small and thin. Then I got a e-Data watch with a calc and other things on it. Little number pad on a watch. Those buttons were hard as shit to push tho. Not a bad watch.

proof niggers, this shit has been around for about 30 years. Idiots just couldn't afford it.
also, women didn't have them, they were a business machine
here, have an image to go with my posts
because in the 90s a phone was just a phone, not a mobile web enabled computer
it's been answered 100 times in here
this picrelated fucker is to blame
Fucking wifi? lol
What fucking wifi? Wireless anything faster than the cellular network was prohibitively expensive.
Cancer is a wonderful karma.
Reaffirmations from likes, comments, and emojis. Your kids are addicted to the happy happy joy joy feelings that used to be given in person as opposed to social media. It's like a gambling addiction, you put your money in (make your post), pull the lever (check phone ever 10 seconds), you either get your desired comments, likes, emojis (hit the jackpot) or you don't and it affects you psychologically. It's fucking sick, and you shouldn't allow your child to use social media until they are mentally responsible enough to realize its uselessness and depravity.
It's exactly like doing meth or coke bumps. But meth and coke have limits because they will chemically ravage your body with too much use. But phones and gaming don't do this, so people can keep abusing their dopamine receptors right into extreme mental illness.
Egomania, depression, psychosis, paranoia, instability, sleep issues, apathy, sexual deviancy, etc, all driven by abuse of dopamine from social media and competitive online gaming and smartphones.
I can't wait for the global psychosis and eventual 25%+ Parkinson's disease rates.
Without Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, snapchat, and YouTube, they were email phones
The problem is fear of missing out.
I had a psion series 3 in school.
I was that kid.

You win the internet today for delving. Congratulations! Have this precious (You)
Facebook hired psychiatrists to work alongside the programmers with the end goal of making them more addictive.
I doubt if they were the only company to behave so cynically evil.
Indeed my good man. Fuck everything trendy.
Cell phones are EMF Weapons reading your brain and modifying them, aka BBCworship they shut down the part that creates disgust and turned it into a turn on
The shit was really expensive and not really fun/flashy, also you had to actually have a little bit of intelligence to figure them out.
It kept most of the poor and the stupid from using them. Whenever the lower class gets involved in something it's pretty much ruined.
I think that's just you
Or maybe you're just a weak interacial faggot?
Actually It's selected by Bio field = Aka Targeting blonds
>Social media is a cancer to society.
This says it all. The phones are fine.
Srsly the 90's were like the 1800's compared to electronics today.
it became possible to watch porn on your phone. i've never had a smartphone but i guarantee that's what i'd be doing 90 percent of the time.
Humans are social creatures. Most of us seek approval from social groups and to approve and disapprove of people socially. Facebook is a type of human crack.
you're an actual incel, kill yourself
>>>/faggot/
One was just a flip phone. The other is a smart phone shit for brains idiot.
There's only so much time you can spend playing snake before getting bored.
I miss phones like that tbqh, but I use my navigation on my current phone too much
Yea that looks so addicting m8. Dumbass
get a garmin, phones like that were the pinnacle of actually phoning
Because they didn’t do anything interesting?
nah, nokia phones were a status symbol, most people were douche bag wigger faggots
Holy hell.
The Iphone came out in 2007, which was the first smart phone. Before this cell phones were phones with some extra lame add ons like a shitty camera and tetris style games. Texting was new and hugely popular with these old cell phones, which the older generations hated. And there was a trope of teenagers who were always texting each other buried in their phones back then too.
There was also ipods and other mp3 players for music which revolutionised music around 2000.
There were also portal gaming sytems like gameboy, which started around 1990, and had many subsequent improvements and different brands.
Smart phones combined all of this with the internet into one device. Having a computer in your pocket was and still is a human revolutionizing event.
People have unlimited information and communication at the tips of their fingers.
I'm fascinated by neurology and pharmacology.
I'm also extremely experienced in dopaminergic stimulants. I know their effects like the back of my hand, and I know what I'm seeing now society worries me far more than a methhead would worry me. As I said, there's no limits here. Beating those dopamine recepetors down day in and day out for YEARS. It's a disaster of chaotic proportions waiting in the wind. What worries me even more is the lack of awareness among the general neurological community. Surely I can't be the only one who can see the coming hellstorm.
Limited amount of information in the 1990s. You can spend the whole damn day on a cell phone now and not even scratch the surface of what’s out there in the internet. It’s the equivalent of the bottomless pit.
>Why did people in the 1990's seem to have a much healthier relationship with their cellphones/smartphones than people today?
Are you new, here? You were a baller in the 90's if you had a pager...
We didn't have the fancy technology that destroyed humanity, yet. Some people did. But we called those assholes "yuppies" to make us lower-class people feel better about ourselves. That is until they made the technology "more affordable" to us "common folk". And by "more affordable", I mean they made everybody want what the rich faggots had so badly that most of humanity didn't really care that the phone cost several hundreds of dollars along with potentially hundreds more per monthly bill.
I'm under 40 and refuse to get a smartphone, because I've witnessed what it's done to humanity in a relatively short amount of time. People act like these things are the greatest things to ever happen in all of existence. In reality, it's making humans dumber, while simultaneously making them feel like they are all-knowing because "instant google search", at an alarming rate.
My personal boycotts only go so far because there are too many brainwashed zombies that support the death of humanity with their ignorance. Who's coming with me???
I've never had a social media account, a cellphone, or played a game online. I was born in 85.
Being an antisocial loser is starting to pay off as my mind doesn't decay like other people. These days I'm almost an ascetic.
Well you could use IR
Because they were limited tools and not portals into different media and entertainment. There was no escapism to it. We just did shit like input "55378008," flipped the device around and chuckled, "Boobless, hehe." You didn't have a blue light emitting screen fucking up your circadian cycle rhythm either. Sure, you could access the internet, but it was shit compared to using a personal computer still.
What caused this to change? TABLETS and shitty parents. Tablets became the new TV babysitter for shitty parents who didn't want to be involved in their children's lives. These children grew up and are now of voting age with a severely diminished frontal lobe because of all the time they spent right in front of the tablet while their brain was still developing. The frontal lobe controls impulsivity.
Is Jow Forums social media; is reddit?
What would Ted's advice about cell phones and computers be?
My dad still has one of those pocket mail deals from the early 90's thing was awesome could send emails from any phone or payphone.
>iphone was the first smartphone
Widely adopted, maybe.
Blackberry, Motorolla, and Nokia already had multiple touch-screen multi-app phones with internet browsing and wireless internet support before the Iphone came out.
They aren't talking about it because their jobs were to study it and make it happen in the first place. They all KNOW what it does, they get paid to make sure it happens consistently.
I remember when the big thing was something called "two-ways," which were basically just for texting. Two way messaging I think is what the name stood for. They were the next big thing after beepers and like beepers, the general perspective of the public was if you had one, you must be a drug dealer. The funny thing is, most people with smartphones these days do very little talking on it and primarily just use it for the internet, apps, and texting.
Maybe we should go back to two-ways or at least someone should provide the option for just having that kind of service only.
Phones use to be so kino.
Cool funky designs and interesting features.
Now every phone is the same.
