I see these posts all the time and can't possibly comprehend why people make them, especially when they are joking. How many VPNs do you have to be behind to get away with something like this nowadays? WTF are anons thinking when they jokingly post these things? Are they real anons, or is this the FIB planting material for one reason or another?

In reality they would compile the users online metadata with said post to form a threat rating for the individual. If the threat rating is low enough, no actions are taken but a note is still permanently made on file.

The reason why you see more mass shootings in random areas rather than federal buildings is because threats to the establishment are taken much more seriously than people shooting up public events & actual threats to federal dwellings are acted upon while threats to the civilian population are often sat on.

True, but hard targets like federal buildings are easily overcome by people driving things like vans full of explosives into them. This is precisely where online metadata comes in. It's pretty easy to figure out if people are ordering materials for making explosives via irregular credit card purchases, receipts, even location data from things like google maps timeline (a feature enabled on all google play android phones out of the box unless disabled).
