Hello, I am in the US for the first time. My trip is being largely ruined by insane homeless people. Every time I see something cool, nice, wholesome or beautiful, mentally deranged tramps or just scruffs sitting around doing fuck all ruin my nice time.
There are plenty of homeless in my country but they largely sit there looking a bit sad and asking for spare change. Not staggering around with shitty cardboard signs reeking of piss and BO and shouting at people.
I understand why Americans are racists. It's mostly black people. So I can see why you would think there's something wrong with them as a "race". But I reckon it's just because black people are overrepresented in the underclass and if you enter the American underclass you become garbage because society doesn't help you because "I got mine."
The more I see and learn about America it becomes apparent that I've never been anywhere so hypocritical. It creates its own problems, which make people more racist and less tolerant and makes everything worse.
It makes me glad to live in a more socialist country because the welfare system minimises undesirable people out on the loose, wrecking everything. Or if they are on the loose it's in their own shithole suburbs, not nice places.
I know loads of Americans will be cool, but there is nothing I admire about American society. They're cool despite the society they come from.
What went wrong and when? Or was it always this way and all the stuff we're supposed to admire about America has always been a lie?
When l was there l was shocked at how dirty it was.

Just came back from London. The homeless people in America are way worse because they are mentally ill and unstable aka they may attack you. I didn’t get this vibe from homeless in London.

The great promise of America was that it became possible for a Europoor to own land. This was not possible for the vast majority of Europeans 400 years ago. Owning land means self-determination and eliminates the need to rely on another “superior” for everything. In addition, the ability to worship as you saw fit was possible here, not dictated to you by a “superior”. So it was FREEDOM, The only problem with freedom is you also have the freedom to fail. At best you're saying there was a reason it was great. Which doesn't apply any more. Because nobody's going to the New world to buy vast tracts of land to avoid religious persecution. Because most of the old world is now free of religious persecution and you can't just get good free land. And if you could, other than actual farmers and "off the grid" people what's the average person going to do with a load of land? Also, arguably, owning a bunch of land with which you sustain yourself makes you free in a somewhat narrow sense because you're tied to the land in order to survive.
I get what you mean about freedom fro persecution but that basically no longer applies so even if the ideas you're talking about were great once, they're no longer applicable.
