There is no universal model for race though.

In Rome, you were a Roman or a barbarian.
In the 1700s, the British considered the Irish subhuman.

The idea of "white vs black" is a modern one. Some people are born lighter or darker too, and can pass as another race, and will be treated as such.

You'll all get caught up in these confused debates about what is and isn't a race, and who's on what side, and where you draw the lines and how you tell, because there isn't a right answer. It's okay.

It's a social invention with fuzzy edges. It wasn't always this way and it won't always be this way. It's just science and history.
