My old man did a couple years in infantry (he was the last squad to work in the Honest John program (Canadian Nukes)) And realized that there wasn't much of a future there. He went sheet metal tech in the airforce and did another 20 there and then 20 more in civy life. Airforce is the way to go for usable civy trades.
