Full auto is illegal. This is my CZ Scorpion which is semi auto and legally a "pistol" because that isn't a stock, it is a SB Tactical SBA3 brace. If I was to put a stock on it without a SBR permit it would be a felony.

My old Series 70 Government Model had a worn sear and would go full auto.

Pretty funny at the range, especially when cops were there and they'd want a go.

No the velcro strap makes it a "wrist brace" but it can legally be shouldered like a stock too. But if I was to put a regular stock on it without the permit I go to prison. The velcro strap makes it tooooooootally different.

I should also add that with the exception of one model, high capacity, select fire medium powered rifles hadn't proliferated yet. What are colloquially known as assault rifles perform most of the roles submachine guns used to fill. Though apparently they don't fill them all since big army just adopted a new 9mm subgun.

SMG isn't a legal category. Legally they just care about full auto and barrel length. They don't care about caliber. You can have a .50 BMG pistol and a 9mm rifle.
But a SMG is a short full autonweapon that fires pistol caliber ammo.
