Imagine if every Stuka pilot was as good and as lucky as Rudel. I read his book as a kid, it was pretty inspiring. He wasn't even supposed to be a stuka pilot, they had originally decided he didn't meet the physical qualifications (if I recall correctly it was because of an injury he suffered in childhood) and they had him flying recon planes for the first couple years of the war.

Luftwaffe's most lethal Stuka pilot. Hitler personally pinned the iron cross on him and then three move devices that attached to it thru the war. He was an amazing pilot and fearless warrior. Shot down many times over enemy territory and always made it home and back into the cockpit of a Stuka. He had one specially modified with twin 3.7cm auto cannons that fired tungsten armor piercing rounds. They called it a "Gustav" Stuka.
Last medal he got Hitler asked him to stay on the ground and instruct instead. Rudel refused. Hitler said ok. What else could he say to the guy? He was an avid mountain climber as well.
Even the bongs and burgers respected the shit out of this guy. He surrendered at the end of the war by flying his Gustav to an RAF airfield and landing there. Pure fucking balls.
