Let me help you out.. when they use the term "product" they mean a specific brand by a specific manufacturer.
Vaping causes death for 2 reasons, the first is impurities in the oil, the second is the metal cartridge they smoke out of. Some cartridges have kanthal wire, some don't, either way there is metal that gets red hot which is what smokes the oil in the cartridge.
If you are a pothead you'll remember advice from older potheads telling you to only ever smoke out of glass, never ever use a metal pipe or a metal screen, not even steel. Why? smoking metal kills you. A little bit of it is oxidized every time and breaks off to enter your lungs.
These people are dying from cobalt poisoning, for example, because of the electrode wire that heats up the cartridge. You can't smoke off that stuff.
Going back to the first reason, impurities in the oil. Even medicinal oil made under law has impurities, but if the distillates used were all natural terpenes then you'll be fine. If they used propane and butane then you're smoking propane and lighter fluid.
Let me repeat that, even the medical dispensaries use propane and butane as distillates. These users will die no matter what. An example of medical dispensary that sells poison butane cartridges would be Sanctuary Medicals in Massachusetts. If the cartridge is 80% thc, what is the other 20%? poison, and the ratio is worse than cigarettes.

I don't think it's vitamin E, could be, but there is a more plausible explanation for the THC cartridges causing problems.
First off you have to understand the gang weed market. The most in demand product by far is high-grade regular marijuana, we'll call it flower. This is really the only "safe" product that can be consumed or used to make other products. By high-grade I don't just mean high potency (THC content) but the way it's grown. Meaning no pesticides or fungicides used, any vitamins used during the grow cycle have been properly "flushed" out by giving the plants plenty of water prior to harvesting, etc. Marijuana is a sensitive crop and can easily develop problems like spider mites, white powdery mildew, etc which can devastate an entire grow operation. If just one plant develops these problems it can easily spread to any of the other plants it reaches the air circulation of.
So if a grower gets one of these problems, they have two options, which are either to junk the whole harvest, or to try to use chemical remedies like pesticides/fungicides or boost the plant's immunity with really strong nutrients.
However these solutions all introduce problems, which is that the use of chemicals will affect the flavor and smokability of the product, also they're terrible for the consumers health. So what people started doing is turning these plants into "oil".

The sad truth is that all ash has lye in it, which will eat away at your vocal chords and lungs. You could smoke green tea leaves and still get lung cancer, but at least if you smoke pot out of glass this is all you'll have to worry about, your lungs and voice. If you start vaping you'll die from heavy metal poisoning pretending that Jupiter C Cell cartridges don't have electrodes in them, even though that's how they work. The funny thing about being a fanboy for vaping is that even in these newer cartridges where the heating element is isolated in a steel rod, the air you draw for the 'hit' still comes through the isolated section, meaning that even if the oil is no longer poisoned by the electrode in the new cartridges your air still is poisoned. There's no getting around it, and it's the reason why people who smoke oil out of Oil Rigs have to use a titanium nail to smoke on.
Materials science is beyond the lower distribution of potheads, I'd say 65-70% of them. This whole conversation could be a losing battle if they can't be based in agency.

I should have also mentioned that I'm not a "cloud" vaper. That shit's gay. I've always liked high mg, small puffs. Most of the time I don't even exhale any visible vapor.
Now the process of creating the oil is basically to blast the plant material with chemical solvents in an enclosed tube and capture the THC "oil" that results. This also introduces a whole bunch of problems, one it's very dangerous because the solvents are highly flammable, but also the solvents can be "dirty" and leave undesirable residues in the finished product like industrial lubricants, etc., but the other problem is that basically whatever is in the plant is going to become highly concentrated in the final product. So if you started with plant material lightly dusted with pesticide, you're going to end up with oil with heavily concentrated pesticide inside of it.
So basically you have all of this "oil" on the market that is made from the lowest grade material, full of pesticides and fungicides, and often produced with really cheap industrial solvents which leave behind traces of all kinds of residues, then you're putting it into a form where all of this is vaporized either through a vape pen or some kind of heroin smoking rig apparatus which basically ensures everything that is in the product ends up in the user's lungs. For contrast, with smoked marijuana, most of the material is actually lost to the combustion process so even if the plant material is dusted with pesticide a lot of that just completely goes up in flames and doesn't even make it into the user's lungs, with the "oil", they're getting all of it, and it's already been super concentrated because of the oil making process.
Also it is way easier to bootleg oil cartridges than it is to pass off low quality weed as high quality weed. Someone just has to buy cartridges online, put whatever oil into the cartridges, print out stickers that match a popular brand's label, and sell it. It doesn't even have to be sold on the street. Plenty, maybe most, of cartridges sold out of dispensaries are actually bootleg cartridges either because the store owners are crooked or the sales reps are crooked

nailed it, 100% spot-on. the counterfeit cartridges are from the east coast, it has gotten so bad that the original license vape companies from california don't even manufacture vape cartridges anymore, instead they only manufacture all-in-one, meaning the battery is permanently attached to the cartridge and you throw them away together.
The reasoning behind this is that they real companies can produce the battery at low cost and the street vendors will never be able to manufacture their own lithium ion batteries without exposing their entire underground operation.
All of the old pot growers across the country are pooling their crops together to make these fake TKO cartridges, and when tested most of them don't even have 30% THC even though they advertise 85%. It's not just illegal sale due to being unlicensed, it's fraud, violation of copyright, and medical malpractice. If it doesn't have a battery attached and you didn't get it from a medical dispensary then it's fake.
