Factually untrue. Egypt from it's earliest days traded extensively around the Mediterranean, and were sea-faring. Pre-dynastic Egypt (6000bc) was trading regularly with Mesopotamia, and they were using the Nile as far south of the cataracts to trade throughout the kingdom - it was their primary route for all trade and travel.
The cataracts in the southern Nile and being impossible to navigate by boat were why they didn't venture past the Sahara.
