this has never been a thing, however it was quite easy to get a semi automatic version of our service rifle for reservist training.

now these weapons are classified as "extremely dangerous" by the EU (since a magazine can hold more than 11 rounds (30)) and to get a "extremely dangerous weapon" you now have to get a extra special permit from the government. it now seems that to get this permit you will be placed in a different war time unit than one would be originally.

Finland on the other hand has a form of gun culture (hunting and reservist training mostly). So this new law seriously hurts countries like Finland while having almost no effect on countries like France and Belgium

EU would actually be a pretty based construct if it reformed away the bureaucratic shit, wrote a US type constitution clearly delineating "federal" and national jurisdictions and (this is most important) deported all non-Europeans from EU soil and then built giant Hoxha style bunker lines, barbed wire and minefields on the outer borders so all the muddies get rekt if they try to enter (also put naval mines in the Mediterranean).
