Yea, alot of people died according to persons on the ground on both islands but especially Abaco. It's being described as hell on Earth right now.

Not gonna lie I was expecting massive waves up here in NH from this thing but its peak just passed and it was underwhelming... wasn't even worth the hour drive from what i could see in this live cam... why did this thing peter out so fast?
From all accounts via WhatsApp and FB, it pretty much is. The building codes are rated for 150mph winds but Dorian fucked everything up by being way stronger while moving ridiculously slow. Storm surges >20ft killed alot of people in their homes in areas on that island that don't usually get it as bad during hurricanes. Countless people reported seeing bodies everywhere, people had to 'loot' already destroyed stores for food. There were also reports of other people doing armed home invasions/robberies, although I don't know how prevalent that was. There are efforts to evacuate and deliver supplies now so there's that. Although they were the only main islands that got a direct hit, GB and Abaco were/are the most significant islands behind New Providence (where Nassau is) in terms of population and economy. Officially the count is at 35, but that is only because (according to the Health Minister) they're counting by bodies that are declared officially by medical personnel, for legal purposes. According to people on Abaco, everywhere you can look, there are corpses and the towns smell like death.
Give it to me straight guys, are these Atlantic storms going to pose a threat to us? Bahamas? I’m flying out in 48 hours to assist FEMA in recovering bodies with a cadaver dog.
Seeing a lot of damage from Dorian in Nova Scotia, and it hasn't even made landfall yet. Getting the feeling this is going to be significantly worse than some (including me) anticipated.

At least we're not getting flooded out like in Hurricane Matthew from the looks of it.
Dylan Wright
How often does that part of Canada get Category 2 hurricanes?
They're usually Cat 1s, a few Cat 2s here and there. Rarely do we ever get beyond that, can't remember the last time there was a Cat 3 that made landfall.

>Dorian hitting Canada now Holy shit was the Toronto leaf right?

Is anybody actually prepared for things like hurricanes or widespread power outages over in your part of Canada? I know I am prejudiced in my thinking that everyone in your country is brainwashed liberal idiot that can't think about being self-sufficient, at least those in major metropolitan areas, but how bad do you think this could get in Halifax and the surrounding region?
Ryder James
The NS Government recommended "self-evacuations" for some people around Peggy's Cove and the Eastern Shore just yesterday, and Halifax looks pretty fucked from the trees blown over and cranes collapsing. I don't think people here see hurricanes as a huge issue, but they have been getting pretty bad over the years.
Matthew was the worst we've had, and that was mostly due to the amount of rain. We had 220 millilitres of rain during that bullshit in Cape Breton.
Connor Jones
I really doubt they're prepared for tropical winds webm related
