I've been attending an Orthodox church for the last 4 months, largely because of Jow Forums's meme'ing. It caught my interest.
I went for the last time today. I am now firmly convinced that this "One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church" idea is a fat load of cope.
Fuck you, Jow Forums. The only reason to go to something like this is if you want a "BASED RACIST" church. Which you will definitely get, as half the members see you as an eccentric-at-best white guy who is not one of them.
Theologically, Orthodoxy is also shit. I swear, if they actually read their bibles the whole thing would fall apart (which it is, btw, they can't keep cradle-dox in their churches at all).
I don't know what I am. I'm not Catholic (obey muh pope, lol), not Evangelical (baste tv preacher, lol), not some wierd shit like Mormon or JW. But I do now know from personal experience that this Orthodoxy meme is just that, a giant meme from a bunch of westerners looking for something authentic, and thus willing to gloss over that something's bullshit.

I go to an Orthodox parish and have had the opposite experience. Half of my parish is Middle eastern (Lebanese and Syrian) and the other half are white converts. Most of them (even the Arabs) are patriotic and love this country, on holidays the choir sings patriotic songs during the veneration of the cross and we have an American flag in the sanctuary, so nationalism isn't a problem, as you know we pray for the President and armed forces in the Liturgy. What I suspect is you joined a parish of old Greek boomers who care more about Greekness than Orthodoxy, or you're like the meme in post related and are misunderstanding nationalism vs. racialism.
