I think any rational woman would regret being a single mom. The trick of the article is conflating the plight of the "separated" mother with motherhood in general. Motherhood is fine when you have a husband that you live with (i.e. a real husband) and you can stay home all the time. Motherhood's only really hard when all your mothering happens on the "second shift" after your first shift at work and there's nobody to help you with that shift. If a woman could stay home and focus on her children, especially in their early years, it'd still be hard but they could handle it.
