Texas fag, but live in Austin, which is notoriously liberal, so can’t speak for majority of state. There’s been a huge, coordinated push to flip Texas blue on a national scale. Beto got vastly more mainstream media attention when he ran against Ted Cruz in 2018 than any other candidate challenging an incumbent during a midterm election than I can think of. Californians are flooding into the state, bringing all the terrible politics that made their state a hellhole they had to flee from with them. Between them, the Mexicans, and how unpopular Ted Cruz is, the Democrats see a window of opportunity they haven’t had in decades.
All that being said, I doubt they’ll have any success. Our spics generally aren’t the same as California spics, and while they mostly vote Democrat, there’s a considerable minority that votes Republican. A lot of Hispanic Texans have been here for generations and don’t have any sympathy for illegals.
Don’t think the Democrats won’t pull out all the stops, though.

Texas is kind of iffy. The last four governors include four Republicans, one of whom later became president.
But, the D party trend Texans is historically rust-belt based, favors industries like coal, oil, and manufacture jobs, of which Texas has plenty.
I still believe that as bad as Trump has been for the industrial component that elected him, Texas trends are going to continue to reflect the D party revolt, then switch to R, that is significant following the Democratic Party embracing idiocy led on by William Jefferson Clinton.
The largest portion of D voters that stayed loyal to the party in spite of that party's war against manufacture jobs, and Christian contemporary values, died earlier in this century, with the remainder dying within the next 15 years.
The ONLY chance Texas has to break the Red Trend is to somehow cause the manufacture base voter, and his friends and family, to somehow vote against their own economic interests in favor of theoretical entertainment industry psychobabble disguised as "science".
