I'm not sure why people stopped caring about church but at least where I am it's completely dead and it's been that way my whole life. I never went to church and my parents were mostly uninterested in religious things. I've known a few church going people but they all act exactly like anyone else, so church certainly hasn't help their morality. The mormons I've known were definitely the most put together people.
