From someone with a lot of experience in imageboards and Jow Forums: cripplechan has no future. Really. The real problem is that the communities moderate themselves. The board owners and jannies are heavily invested in their boards, and are essentially a part of the userbase - as opposed to Jow Forums, where the administration is "above" the community and in some sense detached from it.

This is much more important than most people appreciate. You need to only look at reddit to see where communities self-moderating leads. Reddit turning to shit wasn't some kind of an act of God, it was an inevitable result of its implementation.

Communities self-moderating leads to endless purity spiraling that will eventually suffocate them. Jow Forums community stays healthy because the moderation is impersonal and hands-off (plus a few features of chan culture, like contrarianism and the desire to troll, which makes it difficult for an orthodoxy to develop). Here the list of rules is short and butthurt jannies don't try to micromanage the conversation. It is instead guided by the invisible hand of anonymous. It was laissez-faire moderation that made Jow Forums what it is in the first place, and when you fuck that up you endanger its future.

Be thankful it got shut down because it was enabling retardation - now, you are forced to reintegrate into the real world.

this broke down during chanology, gamergate, and the 2016 elections
the mods understood and allowed behavior that everyone basically agreed with but might not have been in line with the rules, sometimes it was memes, sometimes it was bombing bad threads to show people they weren't welcome even if they were technically rule-abiding
once that ended and mods started enforcing the rules "strictly"(but also failing to do even this much because there often weren't any mods online at all), it allowed all sorts of retards who didn't understand the site's culture to flood in and dominate conversation
