i have lived in both america and australia... australia sucks.
literally feels more unsafe in most rural victorian towns than the major american cities like NY or LA.
i never watch over my shoulder while walking in hollywood or lower manhattan, but i literally dont even go to the mailbox without a knife here in victoria.

if you ignore the black on black gang shootings and retaliation cycles in certain american suburbs, and the scammers in NY and LA. melbourne and sydney are worse than any american city by far.
in america the police are rarely more than 5 minutes away.
here in melbourne the police literally take 50 minutes minimum to respond to major crimes like assaults, robberies, etc.

I lived in Perth. It's hot as fuck and also very expensive. In my 8 years living there, I had my house broken into on multiple occasions (was living in a fairly affluent neighborhood in Mosman Park), and was mugged once. None of that ever happened here. It's not all bad, but I can't say I miss it much.
