I'm an Austin native with connections to the old music scene (Roky Erickson and Willie are family friends.) I fucking hate what's happened to this place, it's truly demoralizing as fuck. People have been moving to Austin since the 80s, but people used to move here because they wanted to experience the culture and what Austin had to offer. For the last 10 years though, it's been mostly transient worker bees with no loyalty to anyone who want to tear everything about this town down and replace it with the same shit they just left. All the small shops, all the family-owned restaurants, all replaced with H&M and In-and-Out. The "music scene" if you can even still call it that mostly consists of hipsters on MDMA blasting a playlist out of their macbooks. The nightlife here now is so basic bitch I can't even enjoy it anymore. All the green areas of Austin are now basically gone, replaced with miles upon miles of high-rise condos for the pajeet robot workers. Charming small towns around the area like Kyle and Georgetown are now just apartment complexes.
