She didn't actually burn the baby which is a big part of why she wasn't convicted. They weren't able to prove how the baby died. The only thing they had was a confession. They argued that it was false because she just told the police what they wanted to hear. Part of this confession was her saying that she burnt the baby when in fact it was never burned leading to the entire confession being put in doubt.
