If you read my other post, I explicitly state that high intelligence is not necessary if not when confronting grandmasters. The difference with Go is that you can't even be a decent player if you are not highly intelligent.

There are more positions in chess than there are atoms in the universe. We don't have endgame tables beyond 7 pieces and just storing the 7 piece table is 15 terabytes of information. As each extra piece you add makes the number of possible variations go up exponentially, it is theorized that making an 8 piece endgame table would take over 1 petabyte of information just to store the solution.

It is totally impossible to "solve" chess, and very few people have expansive knowledge of sidelines of the Ruy Lopez or Sicilian Najdorf outside of grandmasters, despite their immense popularity across all playinf levels.
