Recently I learn that Singapore was once a part of Malaysia, and that if you guys haven't gone Independent you would have been an SAR like HK to China, wow, talked about bullet dodged!
It's so strange to me that Singapore was once a part of Malaysia. You really left them in the dust.
Malaysia isn't too bad, all things considered. You would probably just have had a slightly richer Malaysia with Singapore streets ahead of the rest of the country.

But I wonder what would have happened if Britain never handed over Hong Kong to China, only the New Territorites were actually leased, the majority of HK was actually ceded over a 100 years ago.
Would UK be richer? Would China be rich at all? Most people who do deals with China do it through HK because there is no rule of law in mainland.
