But look at the hanging teardrop shaped street light. He gave it weight. It is not just floating there, you can imagine its weight if you held it. The lighting inside the shadows, the ground plane. You can feel the building's mass and depth. He was actually very good.

Hitlers paintings are nothing special for the time when everyones grandmother was taking academic drawing classes.
Thats why that often reposted image with the work of two literally whos and Egon Schiele (who went to the academy Hitler applied for) getting contrasted with Hitlers work is retarded. The Viennese academy was very traditional at the time and students had to draw from plaster casts and models etc. in an academic fashion. To get in you had to be good at drawing already and Hitler was simply one of many aspiring artists with average skill. This also means the work of the 3 artists in the picture wasnt accepted by the academy at all and was simply something they did on their own accord.
According to Hitler himself he lost his map with drawings he made during ww1 so maybe he improved or changed his style. What everyone knows him for, artistically speaking, are of course the designs he made for the national socialist movement.

Here the perspective is less obviously wonky than in Katie’s example, but the left hand side of the building does appear to be leaning slightly to the left, and receding a little too abruptly, and the bottom row of arches - especially the second from the left - seem flattened towards us. The tramlines do not recede evenly either. Some of this is the result of incompetence, but most of it looks exactly like the distortions caused by a camera lens. In other words Hitler clearly copied it - maybe even traced it - from a picture postcard. He wouldn’t, of course, be the first artist to use photographs to help him get his perspective right, but only a very ordinary amateur uses photographs to help get the perspective wrong.
More to the point though, it is a very dull and derivative painting: the surface is dead, the colour washed-out and sickly, the composition obvious and conventional (though that’s probably the fault of the original photograph he was copying), and the handling fussy and lacking in atmosphere. Look at the grey wash that represents a big shadow cast across the foreground: it is scrubbed and uneven, betraying an unconfident and tentative hand, and a lack of basic technique.
