The existential dread you feel about what is to come, the clown world that you believe we live in. Everything is explained.
... everyone in the Soviet Union knew the system was failing, but no one could imagine an alternative to the status quo, and politicians and citizens alike were resigned to maintaining the pretense of a functioning society. Over time, this delusion became a self-fulfilling prophecy and the fakeness was accepted by everyone as real, an effect that Yurchak termed hypernormalisation.
Does make some weird admissions though, Miles Mathis has a good paper on the documentary worth reading if you've watched it.
John Johnson
actually rereading this paper, it's much better than anything Adam Curtis could have spit up hahaha
Liam Williams
Good supplemental reading for this is Surveillance Capitalism. The way corporations learn everything about you and use some of the stuff you see in hypernormalization to control you is positively dystopian.
Brandon Hall
Bump. Watching this stuff OP. The more I learn, the more I realize that Hitler did nothing wrong.
Logan Bennett
I've recommended this doc to my circle of friends many times, telling them every time that it is long but ABSOLUTELY WORTH WATCHING. None of them have watched it. It's not the be all end all, but the thesis is well constructed and overall describes the culture war in a way no others have done yet.
Adrian Morales
Sounds like post-modernity to me, and Simulacrum.

>r-reddit
ok, non contrarian view here. >everyone in the Soviet Union knew the system was failing, but no one could imagine an alternative This show the flaws of Curtis' style even more when it's in print. "no one could imagine an alternative" O really? no one could imagine? I could sit in a gulag and still imagine an alternative. fucking bullshit. eat it up.
Wyatt Nguyen
more garbage being pushed out by the BBC. psueds can't get enough of it.
Lucas Young
Speaking of hyper normalization, this video is blocked in japan.
Nathan Price
same goes for capitalism now
Chase Flores
its all psueds m bingo

>Thread isn't taking off. Watching a full documentary is probably too low-time preference for most of Jow Forums.
Jaxon Smith
So why retarded Jow Forums rednecks can't imagine an alternative now (that makes any sense)?
Leo Wilson
Watched one hour of it, got tired and skipped. Orange man bad was the conclusion of this bullshit. What did I expect from a bbc doc..
I don’t care who is president, I don’t even vote. It’s just the whole idea behind this 3hr long too woke for you doc goes to shit when the conclusion is “ oh trump is the bad guy” shits old.
