Uh guys I just wanna let you know I've had this wacky theory that our Sun was in a long orbit around Sirius, the evidence being that in the days of the Greeks, Sirius was explicitly referred to as red. It is now quite unmistakably blue. If you know your doppler effect.. you might have a kneejerk reaction like I did. Why would it suddenly change from red to blue? Basically indicates a parabolic trajectory respective the Earth.. and that's exactly how an orbit would appear until you'd completed it. I mean if anyone knows Keplers laws and does some basic googling you could see this is possible but it would probably be a gazillion year orbital period.. an interesting possibility is that the solar activity in the Sirius system might have some effect on the Sun's if we were to get close enough. That's very strange... If the Greeks saw it as redshifting, that means it was moving away from us, and now that it's blueshifting that means it's coming towards us.
What I don't get is, the orbit supposedly takes 220,000 years. It's 73% of the way here, with 60,000 years to go. But how the hell would the Greeks see it redshifted, if it's been heading towards us for the last 50,000 years? That is, it was its furthest away 50k years ago, before it started swinging back towards us.
I definitely believe that it doesn't have to be 100% of the way here to have effects --- maybe it only needs to be 73% of the way here to "cross a tripwire" so to speak; a threshold for when the effects magnify.
It's also possible that they're lying about the duration of the orbit. Perhaps it's moving much faster than we're told...

Pay attention to what the constellation of Sirius represents. Neil degrasse Tsyon walking a dog under the sun is a clear reference to the binary star system of Sirius, Sirius being the dog star. The dog star orbits erratically around the main star, like Tyson's dog erratically wandered around him and his straight path.
