I have a STEM degree and a tech job. I get paid ~$50k a year, and get taxed 25% or so. On top of that there's VAT for another 25% tax, so 45%+ effective taxes.
My net pay is therefore around $25k a year. Rent is at least $1k a month, so 50% of my paycheck.
The reason everyone seemingly has a lot of money to throw around is because they spend literally 100% of every paycheck. No one saves anything unlike in America, they are banking on being bailed out by the welfare system once they retire. That's great if you're a boomer, but if you are a zoomer there will be no welfare gibs left, as we will have spent it all on our 75% immigrant population by 2100. We're already at 20% by the way.

Everyone in the Nordic countries is doing “ok” as in they never really have to worry about the basics, however the deck is very stacked against you if you want to be successful. The system really discouraged entrepreneurship. In the US there is much more opportunity to become successful but there’s a huge underclass of low wage workers barely getting by, useless nigs, and debt slaves.

I knew some Finns that ran a business and the employment issues they had to deal with were shocking to me.
