In his writings he never made mention of his ethnicity. He's parents were Polish American but he was never taught to speak Polish, nor mingled with the Polish community. His parents so it seems were desperate to assimilate. Furthermore, I think his Dad was second generation whereas his mother was first generation Pole. But you are correct to say he is a "Polish" mind.
There is still some possibility that he is Jewish. But I lean more towards him being Polish. Him being Jewish would explain the fact why he was never raised in a Polish speaking household or brought up his Polish identity in his works.
