The Remington has a better designed mag tube for expansion (so if you get the length you want in the first place, not an issue). The Mossberg has a better designed bolt.

every single mossberg I've handled rattles bad. My beat to shit 1987 surplus 870 when the sling stud is removed, barely rattles at all. My maverick forend has a ton of side to side travel. Loading port is sharp compared to smooth edges on an 870.

The cross bolt isn't as nice as thumb switch, but the 870 feels like a much nicer gun.
