Watching the Ken Burns Vietnam War documentary

Watching the Ken Burns Vietnam War documentary.

God damn there is alot of good M14 porn in this one.

So which would you take in Vietnam? M14 or M16

don't watch that bullshit look up "battlefield vietnam" on youtube, much better doc on the war

M14. Fuck the Meme16

M60 all day baby.

Am I a bitch for wanting the M16 cause it’s lighter?

no, anyone picking the m14 is tipping their fedora and nothing more

Lighter, shorter and a much higher rate of fire. As long as I was issued a cleaning kit with it I would take the m16 all day

M16 was shit-tier in the jungles of vietnam

I'd much rather have an M1 Garand which was completely flawless in the jungles of WW2 which were by all accounts much worse than anything in Vietnam

AK-47 you imperialist dog

As long as you kept the rifle out of the mud it was fine, the clime had noting to do with the M16s failure, it was the ammunition which was only compounded by being wet.

m14

>gets shot by friendlies
heh, nothing personnell kid

>M16 or M14
>not dropping acid and grabbing the trenchgun to hunt VC

.444 levergun

I’ll be honest if I was in the jungle my constant sobbing and pants shitting would keep me too weak to shoot anything.

You've never been in a jungle, have you?

>So which would you take in Vietnam? M14 or M16
My gramps carried M14 in Vietnam. He said that M16 was shit and he'd never use it.
He holds the same opinion to this day.

Do you use your rifle as a pogo stick only in the jungle and no other climes?

HOW COME LIGHTER AND SHORTER IS GOOD FOR GUNS BUT BAD FOR PEOPLE? GODDAMMIT I HATE IT

Hell yes, either that or an M16 with a suppressor like the ones the LRRP used.

M14. Without a doubt

Believe it or not, lighter and shorter is better in a firefight. When bullets start flying just squat easily behind a rock or barrier and then laugh at all the big guys trying to get small.

t.5'6" former 11B

Ruck marches still suck tho

troops desperately wanted the m14. federal defense welfare mandated they take the crap m16 to bloat spending.

ironically, the "flying wall of lead" doctrine enabled by the m16 worked better to the conflict, but the gun was just such utter shit compared to the m14

Ideally I'd want an AKM, but that wouldn't be feasible for obvious reasons. I'd take the M16 readily as a second choice. When you're outnumbered and ambushed in almost every engagement, all those extra rounds come in handy.

>Inb4 the rifle will fail
I'd be autistic about weapon cleanliness in that environment regardless of what I was using.

Early or Late M16? Early or Late ammo?

Early M16 with early ammo? I'll the M14.
Late M16 with late ammo? I'll take the M16, no question.

Fun anecdote about the M1 Garand:
I shot the InRange Desert Brutality match back in February with an M1 Garand.
The whole match was covered in fine dust, dirt, and crap.
ARs and AKs were jamming and failing to feed left and right (dust gets in the mag and drags on the carrier). An AK actually sheared a bolt (made by IO, but still).

My M1 (made in 1943) ran flawlessly. No mags=no mags to get dirty.

>t.5'6" former 11B
any tips for a 5'7" 11x depper? how do I into ruck?

Fuck yeah, the full buttstock is nice in case you have to smash some gooks.

Well you could try trading blowjobs for help carrying your kit.

This guy seems to be the only well-informed individual in this whole thread

thanx

M16, but only if I get a cleaning kit and the proper ammunition like it was supposed to have before the bean-counters fucked everything up.

Dumb question, would it be possible to fit a CAR-15 with both a ring mounted M203 and a pre-QD era suppressor?

>AK by IO
Jesus Christ, I've seen Kyber AK's that ran completely fine in Afghanistan, and they make them by HAND.

M14, cause underbrush makes 5.56 deflect like a motherfucker, and shooting doped up NVA with 5.56 is stupid.

Not Just the Men, but the Women and Children Too

C'mon guys it is all about the famas

Thank you

>that pic
Holy fucking shit. I may be mistaken, but im 99% sure thats Larry Danner... he was my beat friends dad. Larry never talked about the war and all the crazy shit they did, but he was legit a member of an LRRP unit, and most certainly assasinated gooks in the bush

Give me a fucking chopped rpd both weapons you chose are trash for jungle warfare

This guy gets it

This, but with the caveat that it's the M16A1, the as first issued M16 was not the best.

They shot at me first.

Unironically, the M16A1 is best version of the M16.

enjoy jamming and having wood furniture rot on you retard

My Dad carried the M16, but went through basic training with the M14. The M14 is heavy as shit, but he considered it very reliable. During infantry training he said the M14 got caked in mud and grime and would still work. While he was in 'Nam, the M16 was shit tier, and he had to cover the barrel with condoms from the PX. But, he did say it was super light and he could carry double the amount of ammo vs. the M14. He also thought the .45 was stupid, heavy, and unreliable in Vietnam. He liked the Baretta 92FS they switched to in the 1980's.

This is what "American victory" looks like?

This.

Because the enemy can't fight back when they're blown up and on fire.

Just take the (you)

This is the best answer. Fuck that shitty surplus powder and lack of cleaning kits.
