its just the idea that it is a 5.56 mag almost the exact same size & shape as a Stanag, but its not.
i already have a fuckton of ar mags that i can use for any AR i have now or buy later without the issue of having buy more with each rifle and keep them separate from each other. fuck there are several other 5.56 rifles beside the AR that take Stanags.
there's just no way in hell i'm buying a 5.56 rifle that needs its own special snowflake mags

i just don't want to clusterfuck my limited storage space with multiple different types of incompatible 5.56 mags.
i'm trying to downsize, streamline and simplify my collection. since i already have a fuckload of Stanag 5.56 mags for ARs, i just cant get comfortable with the idea of having a whole different and incompatible set of 5.56 mags for one non-conforming rifle

otherwise, i would love to have a min-14 to fuck around with. if it was Stanag compatible i would buy one tomorrow

Yeah. They connect the barrel to the gas block for more rigidity. Only really beneficial on the models without tapered barrels.

Mini-14s are cool if you want a relatively small gun. Less bulky than most ARs.
