Camping / survival / SHTF

My brother want's to go camping (after years of saying he hates it because of the Marine's)

I wanna get some military surplus stuff because it's cheap and some of it is good quality
Or maybe go with a $10 dollar store kit

>What do the Jow Forumsommandos use in their survival kits in the wood?
>What do you recommend I keep in my bag?

>Food
>Water
>Shelter
>Fire
Top 4 priorities
You're on a bike, so you can carry the extra weight

On top of that
toiletries and entertainment (radio, deck of cards etc etc)
Sunscreen
bug spray
a compass
a knife
whistle and/or signal mirror

the list goes on and on, just google camping checklist

Looks like a rape kit to me

get /out/

>I wanna get some military surplus stuff because it's cheap
>milsurp
>cheap
Did I miss a memo? The shit at my local milsurp stores is way more expensive than it has any business being, and I have no idea why. Is this a regional thing?

Get an ILBE or MOLLE II assault pack and an old stainless steel mess kit to start with. Both will last a lifetime -- I still have the mess kit I had in the Scouts. They can be had on eBay for $50 and $10 respectively.

Whatever else you pack, remember plenty of toilet paper and a trowel for digging shitters. People always forget the TP.

Ebay and online stores are the way to go these days. No reason to go to a brick and mortar store unless you wanna support their business or see cool stuff in person. All are run by old dudes who don't know how to evolve.

op here
compared to camping store we went in, all the prizes were crazy
$50 for a 1.5L bladder with no bag,

Amazon is always a choice, but it's not same day

Fuck no
i love using Jow Forums
no one's ever called me a nogunz here because I'm a huge gun nut

Adam Savage said it best
sometimes you just want to hold and see things in person

I'm in my 20's, but I'm old school

Protip: You don't NEED a Camelbak. Unless you're a soldier on patrol or a hardcore backpacker who wants to drink on the move, several canteens will serve the same purpose.

/out/ is slow as shit and filled with retards who buy expensive shit with NEETbuxs and don’t even camp

>need

There's that word again

I usually just carry a water gallon in a drawstring backpack

cheap, easy, always got water

dude's fucking with op
camel pack is more efficient

>water
>fire
>shelter
>food
I use
>ULA circuit pack
>Hennessy ultralight asym hammock
>mountain hardwear sleeping bag
>cat food can alcohol stove
>firekit with matches, flint/steel, lighter, and various tinder in case it’s wet or I feel lazy
>aquamira water purification
>smartwater/Gatorade bottles
>whatever REI had on sale for clothes
>trail runners
>freeze dried food, jerkey, cheese, chocolate, nuts, high fat high calorie low density foods
I fell for the ultralight meme and don’t regret it at all. Heavy shit sucks, just save your money for good shit. IF it breaks companies are really good about fixing or replacing it at no cost.

>bashing /out/
>a guy from a board who loves animeshit and tr*ps
fuck off will ya

Just get a kelty redwing, cheapest tent from walmart, and a sleeping bag priced at your comfort level. Then get a cheap gallon or two camelbak, and a bunch of bic lighters if ur gonna do a fire. As far as food goes, euther bring a mini stove, bring canned food, or get some mre type shit. Dont forget to leave a note with someone saying where ur gonna be camping, in case shit goes down.

Needs more zip ties.

Feel free to join us, friends.

no disagreement

Dear OP
Hikingfaggot here
How long are you going to be innawoods for
What type of terrain/area
>if in desert, no rain gear. If else, carry rain gear

Any streams or lakes in area?
>carry filters
Get a map if in national park
make sure to pack a toothbrush and TP, don't want an dirty ass
>also carry a light shovel, or an entrenching tool, trust me
Also carry a knife, cause

For food, carry a shit ton of granola bars, those vacuum dried fruit things, and bagged goodies for quick snack. For full meals, long lasting meats, bread, or just some Mountain House if you have a gas stove.

BRING A PAPER BOOK

Asking this on Jow Forums is where you're sure to get a bunch of "survivalists" instead of actual campers and backpackers
Check

Looks Jow Forumsomfy

I want to alter your priority list, with the top being most important:

>good boots/merino wool socks
>water
>navigation equipment/training plus redundant backup
>shelter
>appropriate clothing
>fire
>food

Everything else is extra.

I didn't even know Jow Forums had a camping section

i always just use Jow Forums and /b/

not entirely sure
mostly woods, hills or mountains out here

Planning on going on a survival/S.T.A.L.K.E.R. type camping trip soon, what should I add to this? It's gonna be in the fall probably.

Should have added more info. It'll be in Pennsylvania for a duration of about 4 or 5 days. I will bring no food with me and will have to rely on the environment. I've been doing some studying of local flora and how to forage and gut different types of animals. I'm new to this - never in boy scouts, and only been hunting once. What more should I study up on?

Bring food

I'm pretty chubby so I think my body can survive on its own for a few days.

You sound like a douche

You will probably still need other nutrients and if you have more weight you will use up more energy to be active.
Bring food at least as a precaution.

Take a second look. You might find that a majority of the 'surplus' is actually factory new civilian stuff, made to look like the military stuff but actually redesigned to be cheaper to make. "Surplus" stores didin't tale long to find out how to maximiize profit. And the world's military surplus has been drying up for years anyway; it's not just the guns but everything else as well.

surprisingly no
I'm huge jokester that's poor as fuck
rode a bike home 4 miles
