I believe that there is a pretty rational explaination for that. My theory is that the preference for self-determination and concern for Injustice is at least partially genetic, and Europe lost most of those genes due to immigration to US, Canada, Australia, etc. You can even see this on a smaller scale in Alaska and Montana, the people who are more daring and want to live a life less dependant on the state move to these states, while people who tolerate corruption and tyranny stay in West and East coast cities.
In addition Europe has had a lot more wars and deaths, and many of the brave, courageous, and honorable soldiers died leaving the weaker and more cowardly to reproduce producing even more of a genetic drain. It would be interesting to rank countries by the ratio of people who emigrated and dead from world wars to how tyrannical their government is.

Europeans are indoctrinated from their middle school years until college (or after they leave it depending on what they’re majoring in). This is especially true for Wester/Northern Europe. Guns are held as somekind of killing tool while the (modern) governments and democratic process is held as some virtue that ensure equality (note that a distinction between equal right/opportunities or outcome is never made, at least not from a middle school/high school perspective). Media and academia are also very happy to point out the differences between the USA and European countries and framing them as much as possible so people don’t get any ideas as to the nature of how the USA got started and how it’s basically an experiment in freedom the likes of Europe never went through.

In short we’re indoctrinated to believe that the governments is always benevolent (due to democratic processes being used) and that we do not need fire arms enshrined into a constitution like the USA. So yes, European governments are quite tyrannical in that sense; they just don’t need to kill or subjugate people the old fashion way anymore. Just call them racist, nationalist, populist or some other newspeak term to make them social outcasts and ensure your dominion over the public remains.

We are LITERALLY brainwashed from a young age to hate guns. Even hunters are shit upon constantly and the population rejoices whenever there’s some sort of accident that injured or kills hunters.

They teach us that only hunters (savage Bambi killers), criminals and the police should own guns. They put hunters at the same level as criminals because they see them as criminally insane mass murderers of innocent cute animals.

As you can see this means that only cops (good) should own guns, while the rest is bad.

I’m Swiss and I would be perfectly ok with having to pass a medical test proving I’m not crazy, showing an empty criminal record, joining a club, having to pass an exam to get a gun owner’s permit, if the permit remains valid for life (like driving license), there would be no restrictions on guns, mags, aiming devices and ammo, and I could CC.

I lived during the time where you could purchase secondhand guns without any paperwork in Switzerland. Gun crime wasn’t much higher, global criminality was a tad higher, but with less violent crime. Then, we imported more and more of Yugos, Slavs, Italians and shitskins and were forced to change gun laws, since those foreigners were too unreliable for our liberal laws. Since we imported all that trash, violent criminality increased.

US has roughly 35% if you count niggers and beaners.

Europe is a big place, you know. Like USA is a big place. What if I were to base my entire understanding of American gun laws on California? Would I then ask why Americans are so afraid of guns?

Some people like guns, some don't. The reason why is probably that people don't feel the need for a home defense weapon in most places, thus they don't consider it to be necessary. Remember that while Americans follow the philosophy of RIGHTS, we adhere to the philosophy of NEEDS. That's why our government will tax things like sugar, because "it's not good for you, you don't need to eat candy" and all that. It results with a nanny state and dormant citizens. Panem et circissas and all that shit.
Those who do get guns get them because they NEED it to hunt, or because they need them to fulfill a recreational/competitive hobby. ~10% of all homes have a gun over here. So 90% of homes are without them. The majority or people are exposed to guns through military service, where they have it super fun. Like dual wielding MP7s, shooting HK417 full auto on budget day (gotta use all the ammo for more money from the government).
Except for hardline LGBT weed smoking socialists who grew up shielded form real life, most people think guns are cool. Most people get interested in getting a gun themselves whenever I talk about it.

So the reason is that the philosophy of needs is the most prevalent, combined with great trust in the government. These are my observations, not opinions.
