Ar10 or PTR91?

Ar10 or PTR91?

Ar10
>Lighter
>more customization
>more accuracy
>reliability unknown
>no standardization

PTR
>legit battle rifle
>heavy as shit
>less accurate
>amazing g3 clone
>ruins brass

Hmmmm

I want a ptr91 bad. It is the second on my list of purchases for 2018. I like the rustic look and feel to it, my buddy has one very fun to shoot.

Ar10 is the better rifle. I got tired of the AR platform for a little so l bought a dsarms FAL. Its understandable to want to get away from the mustang of guns and try out a mercury marauder.

I like my PTR more, the mags were $3 so I have over 20. It has a match grade bull barrel and the extra weight makes it a far smoother shooter. The warranty for the PTR is also great

Both are equally accurate, 18" barrels. Both run steel cased fine. AR10 is nicer to carry but not nicer to shoot

SCAR

What do you mean by "legit battle rifle"?

>gay polymer shit including the lower
Go fuck yourself, and your stupid overspending.

Its got history, and its real fuckin nato.

I like the DB10 ar10s. Extremely thick receivers. Its unfortunate they went retarded and put on 16" barrels.

I want one really bad too, but not one with the shitty polymer lower. All metal is way to go

The AR-10 has history too. It was adopted by several countries and by the Italian commandos. Not as many as adopted the G3, but it's there.

>the italians
It would have been alot cooler if you said a country that actually knew how to fight a war.

The Portuguese airborne used it extensively in their colonial wars in the 60s. Most of which they won.

Ptr doesn't ruin brass.......You can reload it if you don't duck ass.

Attached: 20180110_144314.jpg (4032x3024, 2.91M)

Well shit, now thats pretty interesting.

B- well shit, thats real fuckin n(e)ato.

Attached: image.jpg (630x748, 106K)

Why would you want to?
Most of the PTR cases have massive score marks down the side where the action tore the shit out of it.

Save a little more and buy a scar. They're really nice rifles, even if they are a little overpriced.

Attached: seasonal scar.jpg (1632x1224, 1.3M)

They were going to make it their standard issue rifle but the Dutch fucked them so they only had enough for their airborne forces.

They have marks on the side of the cases from the flying in the chamber, but with a buffer installed it gets rid of the "I completely fucked up the brass marks". You can reload them, but you won't get as long case life.
So if you reload 308, you can still use PTR brass, or don't. I don't care. You do you.

*fluting
My bad, I'm on my phone since my computer is dead and I can't be bothered to replace it.

Have you tried an adjustable gas block on the AR10? Mechanically it should be a much softer shooter than a PtR

Im never buying a gun that has a plastic lower. Ever.

Its pants on head fucking retarded to make gun parts out of plastic, especially small internal parts like the fire select. Its a tradgedy that they made scars with polymer. They would be the perfect rifle if they were metal.

I have not. I'm sure it has the potential. But the PTR is just a soft shooter. Women with almost no experience have been able to shoot it offhand, the extra weight just dampens the recoil

You're aware that they have survived in legit military endurance tests yes?

You probably think that the 1911 is the greatest pistol of all time.

if you aren't poor, you're overspending

10/10 logic

AR-10 for your money is the best way to go.
I know it sucks but one day you'll realize that just about anything that gets closer to objective perfection is boring as fuck.
I bet if you could have yourself any one women you wanted for a day not one 10/10 insta thot would even cross your mind. No, you'd pick that girl from geology 101, or maybe even that kinda cute little redhead with the snaggle tooth that you see every so often at the gas station near home.
You'll drive through your really nice little shopping district with an optimized layout and start to get a choking sensation in the back of your throat. A certain amount of tension builds in your shoulders as you drive past all the pretty houses with beautiful lawns. You'll reach your own driveway to your own beautiful house and hold back the urge to scream, trying to convince yourself this truly is objectively better than that shithole you you rented off of main and easterday. The equity you are building alone makes it ten times better than that cramped shithole where you and your buddies screamed with laughter as Chris tripped over a cord and landed face first into Chelsea's chest.
You'll walk inside and your beautiful wife

>a little overpriced
>literally double everything else

Imagine being this retarded

Stop it user I can only get so depressed.

Yes, I am aware of this.

However, what I domt like is how plastic physically agrs over time, becoming stiff and brittle, thus becomeing vulnerable to sudden failure and cracking. This is also worrying because in cold environments, this issue is magnified. Plastics are even more likely to randomly shear and snap if subject to extreme forces in the cold.

Also, we have no idea how polymer will age in 50 years. Metal, we have a pretty damn good idea.

And lol what pistol do you think is the greatest? Glock? Shut your fuckin mouth.

I don't claim to know beyond "probably not the 1911 since even Browning kept making new pistols after it."

>spending 3000$ on a rifle whos lower cost less than 10$ to produce, and an upper thats worth maybe 1500$ at best.
>still thinks its not overspending for a nerf gun hybrid

Lol k.

Please make it stop.

Dont do this to me.

Attached: image.jpg (222x200, 7K)

They may have kept making new models, but then why is it still outrageously popular today?

Which of those new models are as popular as the 1911 was?

>but then why is it still outrageously popular today

Because it was our service handgun through two world wars so fudds think it's the greatest thing ever.

>Which of those new models are as popular as the 1911 was?

Glock. Straight up. How many militaries are still using 1911s? How many are using Glocks? I don't know if it's the best or not, but it's sure as fuck popular among people who rely on then for their actual lives.

Again, im not going to trust plastic.
That shit is pants on head retarded.

Sure it may work well in the moment.
But unexpected failures, age, cold.. Who knows.
I dont like surprises and steel is the definition of predictable.

You should have bought the PTR back when you were 19 and things could still make you happy.
I've done everything right and it's fucked me up so bad.
I was so happy when I found 13 dollars in my dresser 10 years ago. I recently came into an extra 5k and my facial expression barely even changed, not like the way I smiled when Taylor brought over a sixer of Heineken.

OK? You're not the intended customer, SOCOM was. And it worked.

As a pretty big guy 4U, the PTR is for short arms while AR-10 in implied A2 stock is about right. The actual PTR receiver trigger handle is doggie dingers in dong doo doo compared to a real H&K and I have no idea why they let it keep that way. Also AR-10 can go full 20inch while most G3, not a MSG are 18 inches. The G3 has reliable magazines though and the AR-10, SR-25 mags have yet to be known to be 2015 stanag quality.

Attached: 1498710833475.jpg (500x436, 14K)

>PTR is for short arms

Except when you're charging it.

There is no reason to go 20" 308.
Pure pottery.

Maybe if youre using 556. The difference between 16 and 20 on a 308 is negligible.

I didnt even know about PTR till i was 21.

FUUUUUCK.
>bought an ar15 because SHTF ammo and parts availability
>wanted a wasr10 since 12 years old, still cant fucking find one in my state, still searching a decade later.
>ar15 is 16" and not 20"
>missed out buying the best 29-3 44 mag ive ever seen
>ahndfuls of wasrs have gotten away from me because of pure pottery and bullshit
>desperately want an RPK
>remember when saiga 12s were brand fucking new and sold for 400$ a piece.
>still a loser living at home going to college
>nobody has ever loved me

Fucking kill me.

Attached: image.jpg (640x551, 91K)

>There is no reason to go 20" 308

Spotted the retard that should have just got .223.

So far I have seen LMT, DPMS, Aero M5, DDM5, SR-25, PA-10 all BTFO in one way or another

Seen some home builds with no major issues yet but still disconcerting given a wide range of factory gun bed shitting.

I’d unironically say PTR. So far haven’t seen SCAR btfo, only problem is dealing with FN. Maybe it’s autism because I have a bunch of spare parts for all AR, Glock, 1911, M&P etc but the fact spare parts aren’t really on open market even in something as shitty as an HKparts Avenue has always bothered me

One of the many shortcomings of the rifle.

Explain to me why you flapping faggot.
The fps is only off by like 200 fps at most.

>more weight
>longer rifle
>more bullshit

What do you mean?
How have they failed user? Im really curious.

Ive been looking at DB10 AR10s. Unfortunately 16" barrel, but the receivers are FUCKIN THICK SON.

PTR is covered in polymer garbage, its heavy, and its alot less accurate than ar10.

Parts are easy to find, go eat a pile of weiners.
And for guy who is bitching about plastic you can get wood furniture too.
Quit being dicks.

Both

Attached: 20180225_195640.jpg (2160x2160, 1.25M)

>go spend money fixing stupid shit they should have avoided in factory because of corner cutting and quality

Fuckoff

OHHHHH GOD FORBID I DON'T LIKE THE PLASTIC FURNITURE! MAYBE I SHOULD GO PUT WOOD ON IT WHICH IS LESS IMPERVIOUS TO THE ELEMENTS!
Grip panels, forend, and stock. So much plastic shit. Go sit in the corner and think about what you posted on the internet Mr. Noguns. Oh and while you're at it, take a long look at the failure of time, effort, and my tax dollars you are.

Ptr is more fun and collectible but the ar10 is more practical.
Buy both.
Live free armory has a 200 dollar receiver combo, just put together one later.

>>more weight
>>longer rifle
>>more bullshit

Manlet detected.

My ar10.
Sub 1k everything and sub moa, mags are great, really durable and heavy duty. Stainless steel Teflon finish, though I wish they’d use flat wire springs.

Attached: 15DB6F91-E605-421C-8175-32BD670A4413.jpg (3142x865, 560K)

Plastic does not get brittle from age alone. It also needs to be exposed to significant amounts of UV radiation or heating/cooling cycles. In similar conditions (outside exposed to the elements) a steel gun would be a pile of rust before a plastic handgun frame became noticeably damaged.

Get both. I have a PTR, and I’m working on an AR10 build.

Tl;dr, don’t be poor.

>The actual PTR receiver trigger handle is doggie dingers in dong doo doo compared to a real H&K

Can someone who speaks potato translate this to English for me?

Attached: s5p6BHj.jpg (327x491, 118K)

>>reliability unknown
Even an M&P10 works great.

>>ruins brass
Easy to solve, get a port buffer.

Attached: M&P10.jpg (1280x886, 457K)

Depends I guess. If I would only really want an AR-10 if it was an M110 clone.
Overall though I would take the PTR. Don't forget you also have a great variety of cheap aftermarket and surplus parts at your disposal.
That said I sold my PTR and built an FAL.

I've had the entire neck crushed on my brass. It's from the fluted chamber. Port buffer won't fix that.

The ptr trigger is dog shit compared to a real hk g3

Nah, I like my fingers and working guns.
Quit being a retarded faggot and fuckoff back to angry twat town you dumb nigger.

>he thinks polymer pistols are bad because their lower is made of plastic.

This is bait.

Attached: image.jpg (250x250, 10K)

Maybe a HK91, but actual Bundeswehr issued G3s have infamously bad triggers.

>"SCAR is made of plastic!"
>extruded aluminum upper
>aluminum lower
???

Its not, youre just stupid.
Only supreme retards buy plastic guns.
Enjoy losing your fingers you dirty glock nigger

Why arent you open carrying your 50 bmg?
>manlet faggot detected

The lower is not aluminum.

Attached: image.jpg (640x575, 67K)

Stop buying stupid and weak meme tier shit first, you commiefornia nigger.

It isn't, but it has no problems with breakage either.

There are enough aftermarket parts for the scar that you don't have to have a single piece of plastic in our on your gun if you don't want. Can't really defend the price of such a venture, but there you go.

Well the lock up system on the hi power is the basis of almost every other pistol on Earth now, so.......

What a coherent and objective rebuttal.

This. Also there are aftermarket aluminum recovers which can be shipped straight to your door and can accept pmags

Sorry *receivers. Phone.

The AR-10 is perfectly reliable. It's as realiable as the 15. The AR-15 is a scaled down AR-10 so its as reliable.

Attached: 1520543199025.png (446x456, 262K)

Legit post. Plastic degrades no matter what you do. If you care for metal it lasts hundreds of years.

Do you want just another AR but bigger?

Or do you want beautiful batturaifu which is pretty accurate. Also drum sights best sights.

Attached: 20180324_163633.jpg (5312x2988, 3.74M)

>Because it was our service handgun through two world wars so fudds think it's the greatest thing ever.
It's also accurate, reliable, has interchangeable parts, gunsmiths like working on them, and they're fun to shoot. Glocks are great too, most reliable economic 9mm. Both great pistols, which is why they're so popular.

>Plastic degrades no matter what you do.
Not all plastics are the same, and no, they don't necessarily do.

Glock doesn't use the same ABS plastic that's used in squirtguns, and they don't give it the same chemical treatment.

I'm trying to make my mind up on the same thing. Already have the PTR and it shoots great. Now do I take a risk and build an AR10 that might not work but possibly get the advantages or stick with the PTR which I know works fucking fantastic but is so heavy.

>D-I-O-P-T-E-R-S
seriously
HK sights are unironically the best irons
