So I’ve been hearing very conflicting opinions on VZ 58’s. One of my buddies has one and says it’s decent but overheats easily. I’ve heard other people say there amazing and others say there not worth the $1400. So what do you guys think is it worth the 1400 price tag and is 556 or 7.62 version better?

Fine, but how’s the rifle itself? I’ve heard things from it’s basically a nice sks with a pistol grip/occasionally has ftf/jams, to its the best rifle you can get for the price.

They're good guns, but they're way above what I'd consider them to actually be worth. $1400 for one is insane. If you really need one, find a used one for $900-1000 (which is still awfully steep).

It's honestly a superior platform than the AKM in all but aftermarket. The fact that it was obscure enough at the time to evade the ban hammer back in the 90's was a fucking miracle for lawful Canadian firearm owners.

They're nicer than the SKS in most ways. Better trigger, handling and feel. A touch easier to disassemble (not that the SKS is difficult). They have the potential to be a bit more accurate than an SKS, but out of the box they're equivalent. Aftermarket is good for them too, particularly the 7.62 versions.

I'd stick with 7.62x39, but the 5.56 versions work just fine.

Don't bother with a VZ and pre-order a Maccabee slr instead. :)

Yeah it's $1k for the reciver which is pretty steep but at the very least it's a NR ar-15. If that's a little too much, there's always the wk-180c that wolverine is pushing.

yea, I want a NR AR15ish rifle as much as the next guy, and the fact that it fits AR parts makes it really enticing. But at 1k, I dont think its for me.
Great to see companies in canada coming up with alternatives, but they might have to tone that price down a bit (considering it was 600$ before for the receiver, and even that is steep)

Having shot a VZ58 (outside of Canada), they're a very enjoyable gun that runs reasonably smoothly. I've never shot an SKS, but compared to an AK I got to handle at one point the VZ58 ran smoother than it, and I've wanted one since.
