It feels like the whole concept of freedom and the right to defend yourself, your property and way of life is just something you read about in books. In real life we are slaves to the government. Every aspect of what we can and cannot own is in some way regulated or controlled.

You want to purchase a firearm? Better be prepared to bend over. For the most basic ones, bolt action rifles, lever action rifles, shotguns and other "hunting" firearms, you need to complete and pass a mandatory course. That course takes about 1 week and is in no way a guarantee that you get to purchase anything.

Assuming you completed that course and now have a hunting and trapping license, you may apply for a firearms permit. Every firearm requires its own application, which costs about $60-65 to get evaluated. You need to have a clean slate (no priors of any kind) and even then it's up to the police chief (just a way of saying the one handling your application) to decide if you get permission or not. Said permission can be revoked at any time for any reason.

You thought that was bad? It gets better. Before you ever get your first application evaluated you MUST provide proof that you already own a weapons safe for storage, which costs you (in Norway at least) $450 minimum for one that can hold 4 firearms. You don't have that covered? Tough luck. No firearms for you.

Assuming that all went well, you're now restricted to only owning one firearm per purpose. You want two .308 Win rifles? Tough shit. They think one rifle can easily cover several needs, so you better sell off the first one if you ever want to own the second one.

You want to own a pistol? Alright, sure. That will be another $125 for a safety course and you must be able to document at least six months of ACTIVE membership in a gun club, in addition to the cost of the application itself (another $60-65) per firearm. (cont)

You are then restricted per competition program you want to shoot in. That means that you better be smart about what ORDER you get your pistols and revolvers in, otherwise you won't be allowed to get them since they technically can be used in more programs. For instance, a Colt 1911 .45 ACP can be only be used in certain programs, so you should get that one first. THEN apply to get a Glock 17 in 9x19mm for another program, since that isn't allowed in X, Y or Z. Do it the other way around and you're fucked.

If you wish to keep those firearms, you must maintain a certain level of activity in competitions, or have your permit revoked.

You want to own semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 or AK-variant rifles? Alright, that's another safety course and at least TWO YEARS of shooting IPSC with pistols in level 2 or higher competitions before you're allowed to apply. Even then you may only purchase one of the select few types allowed (see: lovdata.no/SF/forskrift/2011-09-09-930/§4 ).

Note that you are not allowed to carry the firearms on your person at any time, unless they're in a scabbard or gun case. You may not abandon your vehicle with firearms in it, even if you're just taking a piss at a gas station. If you need to piss, bring a vital part of the firearm with you (like the bolt of a bolt action rifle).

If you get drunk while out on town and the cops don't like your attitude, they will report you to the chief and guess what? Licenses revoked.

There's a reason the lefties are trying so hard to indoctrinate the youth on this matter. All the older generations, there's simply too many gun owners or people who see the need for it, to get a complete ban. So they'll just work on a step-by-step erosion of gun rights until they have enough of a majority to push bans through.

But the dangerous thing that we need to watch now, is that the vast majority of school aged kids don't see the value of civilians owning firearms. Right now they can make a scene on the news and give speeches, but they don't have a lot of political power. But when these kids start to graduate, this can begin to present problems.

Despite being eligible to vote for 2 decades, I've only voted the last election season. But the Democrats hard-line anti-gun stance will have me voting Republican every time by default (actually a libertarian).

Lived in Germany for 2 years. Europe is an entire continent of slaves. You are only "free" to do what you are told and only posess rights so long as what you use them for falls within the parameters of what the state defines as acceptable. Government oversight is rampant, I once had a school teacher report my son to the jugendamt (german CPS) because she THOUGHT he wore the same socks twice in one week to school. Months of harassment by social workers and mandatory home inspections later it was finally determined I was not abusing my kids.

There is no such thing as due process or innocent until proven guilty, literally any limp wristed social-sciences degree holder with even the vaguest hint of government authority to thier position can utterly fist-fuck your life at a whim with zero evidence and its up to you to prove yourself innocent at personal expense. The general attitude in europe is that if you are innocent you wouldnt have been accused in the first place. Authorities dont need evidence to punish you, and your "rights" can be taken away pretty at any time. You just need to argue with the wrong person who has some acess to the right paperwork and you can end up totally hamstrung for months or even years for something nobody can even prove you did. Whats worse, the thing you are accused of doesnt even have to be something wrong.

Valuing gun rights isn't a matter of simply being exposed to them and using them for sports. Those people value guns because they value freedom first. Part of it is genetic and part of it is taught by parents.

People dont teach thier kids anything, they provide a roof to sleep under, 3 meals, and all of the consumer toys and baubles to keep them quiet and out of the way. Increasingly parents rely on the schools to actually do the raising. Our schools no longer teach what liberty and freedom is, or what our rights are and why they are important. What they teach is a watered down morally relative load of vague bullshit combined with obiediance to authority. The basic idea for what schools teach nowdays is "youre special! Nobody is really right or wrong (except us! Were ALWAYS right!)! So do whatever you want (so long as weve allowed it first of course!)"

Theyve repackaged things like personal responsibility, patriotism, national pride, and civic duty as either outdated or oppressive. They basically offer a (fake) promise of a system which will protect thier right to behave as children with no responsibility or duty in exchange for ones actual rights and liberty. The responsibilities and duties as a citizen are played as oppressive while the rights are portrayed as outdated and irrelevant. Since theyve never been taight how complex these things are and how important to our way of life it is that we maintain them they have zero value for them. They would gladly trade these things away for the false promise of a life spend chasing endless distractions and entertainment with no accountability to anyone.
