Kurdish Pz. IV variant

Hey Jow Forums so I just had this idea, and wanted to put it up here to see what you think. What if the Kurds made a modernized version of the Panzer IV? Certenly a modernized Pz. IV with modern luxuries like RPG grates and/or spaced armour would be more effective against most "millitaries" of the middle east. They would also certainly be better than the repurposed buses that they call "tanks" (pic related). However they wouldn't be as fast as a technical. What you think Jow Forums, am I too drunk and autistic or crazy enough that it might just work?

Dont drag us autists down to your level of retardation, please. I cant speak for the drunks though

Retarded like you.

What's the point of tanks(non-ceramic protected) if everyone has access to cheap anti-tanks?

OP here.
Well, you can add the ceramic armour and that to modernize it. But since the Kurds aren't facing much when it comes to threats like ISIS and other such rebel groups. It could be a possible "main battle tank", they would be a hell of alot cheaper than a Leopard or Abrams, and the main contender would be personal carried anti tank, IEDs and a couple goat fuckers in a '80s toyota with a DShK mounted on the bed.

They likely lack the ability to mass produce engines.

Yeah, this thought exercise also requires the suspension of disbelief, and the Kurds being competent in production, training, and battle.

This is close to the dumbest thing i've read in a while

Because rapid attacks are what are most advantageous in the types of war they face. As in currently shifting of fronts and needing to attack and then retreat before a more powerful force arrives.

Don't pretend you know how to war better than someone who has done so in their environment for a millennia. t. Other drunkfag

>What if the Kurds made a modernized version of the Panzer IV?

Why not the Mk IV if we're reviving hopelessly outdated designs? Why not just use a chariot?

Interesting idea but would fail.
Pz4H had 80 mm of frontal armor, 30mm of side rear and a 3-5mm armored skirt as "spaced armor". And the H veriant had poor mobility 30-40kph.
In my opinion Kurds are better off getting some ex soviet APCs and fitting them with weapons.
Or alternatively make something along the lines of the SdKfz 231 with ATGMs and shit stuck on it.

Never said I was better than you oldfag, but could it be a viable option in a more traditional warfare?

Aside from the rolling dunes of the shifting sands they have no real concealment which adds considerable advantage. Holing up into a defensive position, no matter where it was, could be easily overrun by a more mobile force. Even if they (The attacking force) lack firepower.

Also, I read your last comment wrong. I was not implying I fought them but war to you and I is a completely different strategy entirely to the sand folk.
Knowledge of the terrain and it's pros/cons wins wars. Just look at Vietnam.

Good point.

What makes you believe a Panzer IV would be something you could just weld together in some backyard shop?

Then why settle for a PzIV and not just produce something more modern like a T55?

Well I don't think you can just weld together a Pz. IV in a shop, but with a coordinated effort from Kurshish officials and other interest groups the Kurds could produce an effective light tank that would be relatively not complicated to manufacture, unlike the modern main battle tanks of our day.

They could do a T-55 variant, and that's what I failed to express, is that something like the Pz. IV just came into my mind when I was thinking of effective old light tanks.

>modernized Pz. IV

So basically your question is:
>What if we got an obsolete light tank with numerous fatal design flaws, then gave it new armor, electronics and the biggest gun that will fit into the turret.
>Then we send it up against ISIS, Syria and Turkey, who are packing current gen AT weapons at minimum and have large numbers of MBTs such as the T55, T62, Leopard 1 & 2 and M48, as well as attack helicopters and ground attack aircraft.
>Would this be a good idea Jow Forums?

Gee I dunno, billy-bob.

> effective old light tanks
> light

It was a medium. Also, while 75 could be used to knock out cars and a few buildings, it is inadequate on modern middle eastern battlefields.

And this would do better then just taking a BMP and welding the same additional scrap metal to it?

>What if the Kurds made a tank that had nothing to do with the pzIV but they called it a pzIV?
Crappy thread.

Shit. Use the Sherman if you want something from the era or the T-55 if you just want a cheap crappy tank. By 1946 the Panzer IV was unable to accept any larger gun than what the Nazis stuffed into it (the 75-76), so even decking it out in ceramics and modern APS would be a waste because it will never be competitive with more modern designs due to its turret ring. The T-34 and Sherman were usable beyond WWII because they could accept modern caliber guns like the 105 which allowed them to fight MBTs.
