>In a move that has been anticipated for several months, the UK MoD announced on 31 March that it will re-join the Boxer programme and pursue a sole-source acquisition of the German 8x8 vehicle.
First the Aussies, now the British.

>Commitment bonuses are being scrapped for every soldier in the Army by 2021 to buy this pile of shit
OH GEE I'M SO SURPRISED
NOT
The Boxer sure became an export hit after being criticized for being too expensive
Anyone else getting a F-35 vibe?
Only that the Boxer is the best armoured fighting vehicle, which high price was more a result that Germant and Netherlands only ordered few of them.
>Bongistan stroke a deal with nazi scam in lieu of LAV3, which americans and saudis had bought thousands of them
not much of a surprise
Was almost certain to happen, Britain helped design it in the first place after all, so Germany being happy to go "yeah you can get back all the benefits you'd have had before" and rejoin it as though they'd never left was an ace card no-one else could have ever hoped to match.
Damn good deal though. 100% assembly in UK, 60% manufactured in UK, full permittance to export on their own accord and complete access to modify as they want. They'll likely get sway on future export builds too if it goes elsewhere.
Fanfiction
Maybe you should actually do some research.
"The UK played a major role in the original design, development and testing of the Boxer, and would reassume the rights it had as a project partner if a deal was to go through - allowing the option for the vehicle to be built and exported from the UK. The deal could see the Boxer fully assembled in the UK with at least 60% of the manufacturing with British industry"
"Artec, the consortium who manufacture the Boxer vehicle, have already made commitments to British industry by signing partnership agreements with BAE Systems, Pearson Engineering and Thales UK"
"It is expected that British companies would compete for the manufacture and supply of many of the vehicle sub-systems, as well as for a full production and assembly line in the UK"
"as an OCCAR member state, the UK has the necessary Intellectual Property Rights to the Boxer"
"As part of the proposed deal, the UK is also expected to see substantial inward investment from Rheinmetall"

Makes me wonder how expensive that rejoining was.
>40% of the value of the contract goes to Artec which are two German companies
UK is sure briliant!
I think for FRES, they had selected the Piranha V
Why bother with this when the Brits already bought the Ajax? Just get the APC version of that and save money, something the British Army doesn't have a lot of
>Why bother with this when the Brits already bought the Ajax? Just get the APC version of that and save money, something the British Army doesn't have a lot of
Because something strike brigades something
and why would the saudis buying anything sway competent militaries?
>because it’s cheaper to buy goods in quantity
same reason why bongs pursue JLTV
A troop carrier based on the Ajax would not be suitable for rapid deployments overseas.
If they're producing large amounts of the Boxer domestically its going to be cheaper anyway brainlet
>Ajax
>based on a Spanisch armored vehicle
>Boxer
>German vehicle
What happened with the British industry?
>rapid deployments
with overall weight of 38.5 ton, no
Why? They weigh about the same, around 40 short tons. Neither of them is fitting in the C-130.
Severe defense cuts+ products that weren't really competitive on the international market.
Please don't be true
Went down the shitter like the rest of it.
Cold War ended, Labour cancelled fucking every single program they could.
There used to be UK led ones for an 8x8, a 40 ton tracked and a 15-25 ton tracked. The latter one shared with the US for a short time.
Then lol Labour.
Combine that with no further tank orders because "all warfare will be Afghanistan style now!" took hold in the (surprise surprise) Labour rule, and the industry simply never got ANY orders for decades, and quite unsurprisingly shut their doors.
In fairness to them right now, this is a good way to get their industry back on its feet, they're redeveloping facilities due to Ajax and Boxer, getting floorspace, investment and a lot of the work share, more than many buying countries get.
It's a stepping stone to recovery.
tl;dr - Fuck Labour.
Army couldn't get a grip on what it wanted, so industry died given zero export success.
>not unless they're producing like thousands
because that's how many saudis had ordered recently
If you like conspiracy theories its that all the cutting of the military and military industry was that so we'd join the EU army and brexit shot a hole through that.
corrupted politicians, nepotism. Israel buys german subs because of prime minister's younger brother.
I still remember when the UK trashtalked Germany that manufacturing is only something for dirty Asians.
eh?
It was all about the banking and service sector.
Having an actual industry was so early 20th century.
MOBILE MOSQUES FOR ALL
Lol
>bin that APC
it's called free enterprise
btw americans are now buying bradleys from BAE
Dont worry. Britain isnt going to make it another 100 years. It will be islamabad, turkey. Or some other islamic country
>I still remember when the UK trashtalked Germany
Ah the entire island landmass grew a mouth and said that, did it
Contrary to popular belief British design is usually pretty good.
What's the cost on one of these? Could this be the official Jow Forums fighting vehicle in Civil War 2.0?
But the lav3 is complete shit compared to the boxer
Which British designs?
The engines on Donald trumps private jet that he specifically requested for a start.
>complete shit
that's prior to 2011 when they started applying double v-hull
Intersting that Rolls-Royce invested massively in Germany. Dahlewitz is one of the most important location of RR.
Is this you trying to now pretend that Rolls-Royce is somehow successful because of Germany?
LAV6 is the current model
And the French are replacing their standard issue rifle with the HK416. What a time to be alive.
