The Problem I have heard from PTR is that they do not inspect their rifles throughly (quality control) and have bad resale value.
In example, the pickiny rails can be canted to the left/right and off center, thus making optics ineffective :/
In example, someone at a gun show told me the receiver junks up and doesn't resist well, despite effective cleaning.
My impressions is that it is the rifle equivalent of a Hi-point. Too harsh?

We have a c308 thread every day. They're trash and have a far too high chance of blowing up or falling apart. If you can't afford a good battle rifle then you don't buy one at all. Stick to something cheap and basic like an AR. This should be a sticky by now

I am merely trying to figure out a good .308/7.62 NATO Rifle without raping my wallet for a SCAR 17s. I can not afford a $3,500 MSRP Gun right now, but I do not think that makes me a poorfag.

Century is the shit one you are talking about. Not PTR.
Classic Firearms literally has four PTR91 GI's left for just under $1000. Don't skimp and get the c308, it has a slew of problems. You won't be disappointed with the PTR.

Yeah mainly just preference. I had bought it kind of out of a panic buy after that Orlando shooting. I had really wanted a battle rifle, but all the FALs were out of stock. Ultimately I didn't shoot it much, and had read With the Old Breed as well as marathoned The Pacific, so I really wanted an M1 Garand. I sold the PTR to buy the M1. Have an FAL now though.
All in all though, the PTR is a good gun, and I may get another one eventually.
