Tbh freefloat isn't worth it just I sold my geissele cause all I did was put a front sight on it. Went to A2 handgaurd and never looked back since.

Free-float handguards "improve accuracy" according to the almighty internet, but at the cost of weight and price. Is the improvement worth it?

I got it for 2nd amendment reasons, not to be an expert marksman. I'm starting classes next week at a local range, but probably am not going to be shooting every week once I kow how to properly use and maintain it.

Looks like carbine gas to me. Get either magpul or RAS depending on budget. If you insist on free floating, do it correctly and eliminate the delta ring assembly, the gas block, and handguard end cap behind the gas block. I'd recommend just getting a magpul or RAS drop in handguards though

I'll just get a cheaper Magpul drop-in guard, then. Suits my needs fine, I'd think, especially on a fairly cheap rifle. Should I also get a rail system to screw into the 12 position on it?

You mean like the attachable picatinny rail segments? Yeah grab one but I like them offset 45° from the top, it reduces clutter in your sight picture. Magpul handguards allow you to offset your picatinny panels to the right or left

There isn't enough room on the rifle for both the red dot and a magnifier, though - if I ever wanted that functionality I'd need rail slots on top, right?

You can get a cantilever mount for the red dot that would push the dot forward over the chamber and barrel, and makes room for magnifier. Typically this is considered the correct way to do this setup.

Here's a good example of how I mean. Notice the arm on the red dot mount that floats the dot out in front of the chamber, while keeping all optics accessories attached to the upper receiver. There are many reasons this is preferable

Thanks. I'll probably be holding off on that for a while, but it's good to know. While I've got you, are magpul stocks an upgrade over the generic S&W ones? If I'm ordering from them for the handguard it would makes sense to get a stock now if it was a good idea.

Its either buy a barrel nut for $40 or sell my rail for $120 and pay another $100 for a new rail.

Your current stock is probably fine, but if it rattles and that bugs you Magpul makes the CTR which is a pretty basic design but includes a friction lock that clamps down on the buffer tube, and keeps the stock on tight with no shifting or rattling

If you want that fuck huge gap on your top rail you should buy it.

i bought some aluminum magazines from Brownells with the green follower and im not completely satisfied with the build quality.
Got some Pmags as well and im more than satisfied with the quality of those.

I'm very limited regarding the available AR-15 brands in Austria, but im intrested in what to look for regarding quality.
Upper and lower is forged 7075 T6.

It depends on your buffer tube. Match stock to tube.

I'd guess you have a mils spec tube, commercial tubes are a relic of AWB days and mostly don't exist on new production guns anymore

Its from Germany.
In Austria we have 3 brands of AR-15's available, all from Germany. A friend of mine worked in the Schmeisser factory for a while and was amazed at how extreme their quality control is, and hes a very active shooter (owns an AR-15 and AR-10 himself). Many of his shooting friends own Schmeisser AR's and they are extremely satisfied. Still, i think you can get a similar quality AR for half the price in the US.
