Watched a video of scout sniper school and nearly all their weapons are silenced. This confuses me a lot because .556 already has p meh groupings at over 550 meters with sonic ammunition, let alone subsonic.
So these dudes go up to 7.62x51 or even 338 and silence their guns? How even?
rounds barely even make noise. Maybe it's the recorder but I remember firing the m240s which used the same round and those things could permanently damage your ears within 100 rounds.
the sound you hear in a video can never go beyond what the mic is capable of recording. same deal with brightness, for people who go full retard and complain about people recording someone welding without using a blackout lens.
gunshots will always sound quieter in a video than they will in real life.
Silencers have benefits outside of noise reduction which are especially beneficial to precision shooting. >Muzzle brake effect, for less recoil, faster follow-up shots, may allow shooter to watch impact of bullet. >Smooths out the flow of high velocity gasses at muzzle, bullet is less disturbed by uneven flow. >Weight of can reduces barrel harmonics
Frankly, reducing noise is secondary to those effects, but even that is helpful, because if you don't have to wear plugs, you're better able to hear the environment around yourself. A silenced rifle is loud, but is about the difference between a Harley with factory mufflers vs one with striaght pipes.

>>Smooths out the flow of high velocity gasses at muzzle, bullet is less disturbed by uneven flow.
Sure, as long as the first baffle is concentric and the "turbulence and cool" part is after the bulk of the gasses have been slowed down behind the bullet.
to add to what some other posters said, it's also true that a silencer is particularly effective at masking the location of fire if you're considerably downrange from the shooter. The boom of the rifle firing will actually follow the crack of the likely still supersonic rounds approach which you'll hear after the round actually impacts.
Pretty sure I went to AIT with the 6 foot guy if he's a 68w

Cans are banned where I live, so unfortunately I have no actual experience with them, but the way it's been explained to me is that the reduced acoustic shock also makes follow up shots faster and more accurate, by allowing the shooter to regain their senses faster. It's more of a psychological benefit than something objectively measurable, but it still makes a difference.

and if the noise was actually made proportional to the people talking then you wouldn't be able to hear them.
some equipment does indeed have a higher range where gunshots are registered much louder than other noises, I think it was a gopro because it was some war footage. The range still isn't close to accurate proportionally though.

>>suppressors will still reduce supersonic ammo to tolerable sound levels Uh...no. Suppressors lower the sound o the muzzle blast, not the sound of the round as it travels downrange
Can isn't there to completely eliminate sound main reason is to eliminate muzzle flash, sure it also makes .338 or .50 bit less loud and reduces distance it can heard and easily located from by sound as well. Suppressors are being tested on pretty much all kinds of infantry weapons, including general purposes machine guns, but it will boil down to cost issues and to how much more unwieldy it will make weapons.
Heard some precision rifle guy talking about the main benefit of silencers was to do with Barrel harmonics. It was not all silencers, definitely some did better than others and they had to match up to the barrel well. But in the end it could do something with the vibrations going up and down the barrel that added up to an increase in accuracy, although it was mostly at very long ranges with very large rounds. I doubt you would see anything past 10% with a normal around like 556 or 3:08 at the ranges most people are shooting.

Even tranny derailed Jow Forums thread is better than April fools/Easter trash that gets spammed today.
My AR (5.56) with suppressor is comfortable to shoot without hearing protection even with supersonic rounds no point shooting 5.56 subs as you may as well be shooting .22LR. With my .308 you still need hearing protection on with supersonic rounds, it's quite comfortable to shoot with subs though.
that other dude with him looks so sad and disappointed, what happened?

You know when you are really worked up and watching some really fucked up porn and then you nut... then your rational thought returns and you realize what you just nutted to? That's the look you have on your face.

>>Weight of can reduces barrel harmonics
I always found this but only on light barrels where a silencer could act as a barrel tuner.
The fact is subtonics are more accurate within range though I'd rather a silencer on a 22LR with a 60 grain and a barrel that can stabilise it to a 5.56. You see the 5.56 will be noisier, and as neither will defeat Kevlar I'd rather have the 22 in HP as at effective ranges it will be more accurate

So how does Ketchum make Jow Forums feel about Trump banning transgendered from military service?
