Shitty bait, desu. But I Have nothing Better to do.
The notorious problems of the M16 were corrected with the M16A1, the problem being cartridges rusting to the chamber walls, and the solution being chrome lined bores. It performed well during the latter years of the vietnam war, and was generally regarded as a very ok rifle.
The AKM on the other hand, Needs to be cleaned once every century, and stands up to the abuse of illiterate peasants, and uses a cartridge better suited for close in fighting.
Summarized: AK wins marginally over M16.

I'm not trying to bait, I genuinely want to know what would be an ideal gun to bring to a tropical environment

Okay. My point still stands.

How about battle rifles: FAL, G3, M14 or are their kind irrelevant?

L1A1 or FAL

>The AKM on the other hand,

as someone who served with akm LOL NO, you clean them before and after shooting well come to soviet and post soviet era standard issue corrosive as fuck ammunition

CETME Ameli

The M14 is a definite no. The open slot in the side is begging for shit to get inside, and the curved op rod was never a very good idea. The G3/CETME and FAL/L1A1 are your competitors. Ergomomically, both are terrible, but the FAL is slightly less so. The G3, being roller delay, will take any beating you can give it, and stands up to dirt better. That's not to say the FAL is a high maintenance gun, it is not. Basically the AK is to the G3 as the AR is to the FAL, but not really becuse AR-10's exist.

Right, now that you mentioned AR10, how does it it rank?

A good one is as reliable as an AR-15, because that's what it is. The problem is it's not a military gun so mil-spec parts don't exist, which leads frankenbuilds to have reliability issues. An AR-10 with parts from all the same manufacturer would be my first choice for a battle rifle.

Seeing the results from Vietnam and the bush wars, I think the FAL given its legendary capabilities with the Rhodesians

minute of barn door is never a good thing unless you're clearing the ticket sales line for NBA playoffs tickets

In thick dense forests, a FAL would work? I always assumed they were ideal for mountainous areas or open savannahs like in South Africa

y'all are retarded
the problem isn't the rifle, it's the bullet
any type of spitzer bullet will not be a good choice in a jungle environment because is single leaf will be able to deflect it.
you NEED a heavy flat nose bullet like a .457

.45-70 rather

RRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Yeah but is there any government in the world that would abandon a 5.56 or 7.62 just for the sake of a slight decrease in deflection?

I feel like the HK416 would be the most reliable overall.

Get an FAL / SLR
