Alright boys, I just finished my first AR build. Unfortunately, I live in NY so I had to go with a fixed magazine solution in order to keep all the features on it.
I fucked up with the buffer tube retainer...I found out I had tightened the buffer tube too far for the upper to fit and when I began loosening it, I forgot the retainer was under a fuckload of spring tension. Long story short, I spent 2 hours looking all over my house for the fucking thing and finally found it inside my TV stand.
Also, I fucking hate roll pins. In particular the trigger guard one. I felt like I was going to break the fucking thing so many times but I prevailed.
PIcked up an MA loader to feed 10 rounds into the fixed mag via the ejection port. It works great!

That actually went completely fine. I had an allen key through it and used a roll pin starer punch, then transitioned to the punch. Completely fine, no damage.

Can anyone recommend me a light to go on a pistol cal SBR build? I've never used a weapon mounted light before so I don't have any set preference over whether it has a regular on/off switch or a momentary pressure switch. Since I'm going through the trouble of setting up a trust and making this an SBR, I'm also going to suppress it. Is the suppressor going to cause the light to throw a huge shadow when it's mounted? I was eyeballing the Streamlight TLR-1/2 models which are really intended for pistols but have remote switches available. Not sure how pointless it would be to get a model with an included laser when the gun is going to have an EOTech on it.

In my opinion a TLR-1 HL is all you really need for pistol cal distances. If you are worried about a shadow look into getting a rail that can go over your suppressor.

If it is beyond the bezel you will get shadow. If you plan to always have the suppressor mounted you gain some freedom to use larger body lights even with a short rail.

I do love the look of builds where the handguard extends out over the suppressor and that would certainly solve the issue, but I also wouldn't mind being able to use it with the suppressor removed if necessary. If the light does throw a shadow on it, I was thinking the best mounting location would be in the 1:30 position looking down the barrel (I'm left handed) so it would be mounted in my field of view, but the shadow would be cast in the 7:30 direction where my view is partially blocked by the gun anyhow. Suppose I'll just have to get everything put together and see how it is and whether I need to change things around.
That does look like a nice setup for a quick-attach suppressor

Depending on the light (such as with the pistol lights mentioned), 12 oclock may be an option if you have the railspace for your hand. This is just a range toy upper, but with say a 9 or 10" rail it would be much more usable and the suppressor shadow would be below your line of sight.
