Daniel Winkler knives

Are they really god-tier military knives? How do they compare with mass produced knives like Benchmade?

Why don't their daggers have handguards?

As someone who only expensive knife is at $200~, I am all for a custom made knife at $400-500 because I love knives and that's the fucking point of owning something special.

But at the end of the day, outside of meticulous heat treat and craftsmanship, the higher end custom knifemakers don't really go nuts with the steel or "innovation" since they're small and don't have the resources to play with shit vs. the bigger companies that can stretch their toes into new steels.

>god-tier military knives
I'd wager that 99,9% of high-end "military" knives get used for nothing more than cutting open MRE rations. What would make those knives "military knives" anyway? They look like totally generic drop-point knives like hundreds of others. They dont even have a proper crossguard so your fingers wont slide onto the edge if you stab a motherfucker in the chest and hit his lighter or his iPhone by mistake. They look front heavy as fuck too, no proper balance. And they probably have a thicck as shit blade so you cant even cut a potato with them without hammering the knife through it with a mallet. Workmanship seems to be pretty poor too, look how overground the edge is right in front of the ricasso. You cant even sharpen the whole length of the edge properly because that overground stretch will form a concave bridge and wont touch the stone.

Holy shit I hadnt even noticed those daggers. It takes a complete retard to make a dedicated STABBING knife without any sort of crossguard/handguard. That Winkler dumbass has probably never stabbbed anything more solid than a layer of thin cardboard with his knives. Good for him too, because he would have a cut sinew or three if he had.

Henry Winkler's are much better.

some kind of meme throwing dagger?

A week ago or so some user complained about his winkler knide how unevenly ground and asymmetric it was. He said it's a piece of shit for that price iirc.

That wooden handle would burst into splinters the first time you gauge the distance wrong or miss the target. I am afraid they are just shitty meme knives and will be forgotten in a few weeks.

>How do they compare with mass produced knives like Benchmade?
They are mass produced. Not close to the same degree as a big factory maker like Benchmade, but there's still a shop of guys making them. The custom knives made by Winkler are separate to the shopmade ones with his name stamped on them.

Handguards aren't essential on daggers. There are a fair amount of historical fighting knives with no or minimal guards, so it's not necessarily an indictment on the quality of his knives. Having said that, I do think a good deal of it is just the hype machine at work and the Winkler Knives aren't really that much better than everything else for the price. His custom knives may be a different story.

They look cool, so that's one thing.

Can't you find a video review where they put them to the test?

I have a glock 81 and that's great.

This is the appropriate response to disgusting Minis.

So, some warnings with these. Up until 2014, his shit was good to go amazing, made of 5160, 2015-2016 he started using 52-100 cause i guess people wanted something harder for prying doors open with and the knives started coming not so sharp and he was saying to customize the edge to your need, then in 2017 he switched to another even harder steel, and his assistants have been having trouble with the shaping during the forging process. And now people are complaining his shit is sub par.

Im gonna say this, i have the hammer combat axe is 5160, and the belt knife also in 5160, and those are THE best blades ive ever held or owned. Balance is ridiculously good, fit of maple handles and pins are perfect, and finish is good to go.

As far as glaring issues go, the only ones i have seen an issue with are his collaboration lines. MINUS the recent one with the forged in fire judge jason something, those ones are good to go.

they are mass produced knives. they're completely average, nice shape but crap QC

look up mad dog tusk. same exact bullshit here, slightly less tacticoolery. $80 knife, $350 marketing surcharge

wow thats the kind of info i was looking for, thanks dude

daniel winkler

That looks odd

>prying doors open with a knife
>ever
Wtf. Thats just straight abuse. They sell mini pry bars. And door wedges.

>shotguns

>Well this is tough 300 dollar navy seals knife, should be able to pry everything open and stab cars

This is what 40% of knife owners think when they buy knives.

Tactical hand slicing

Stab, sever fingers, throw blood in opponents eyes, run away

this is week two Delta Force stuff

I saw some in a local shop, they look nice but I don't really know much about them.

>just carry a pry bar, hatchet, knife, wire cutters, and a can opener! why would you use a knife for that?!?!?
Because most people are dumb and some people legitimately want a single tool that can do a lot of shit on the off chance that they need it to.

given that theyre made with care and by people who actually give a fuck about sending out a product that is finished correctly, they'll have a better quality, fit and finish than any benchmade.

>why the salt
because 4/4 benchmade's ive owned have had mismatched bevels or blade wobble. fuck having to fix your benchmade adamas fixed.
