Taliban using night-vision goggles

>WASHINGTON — Once described as an ill-equipped band of insurgents, the Taliban are increasingly attacking security forces across Afghanistan using night-vision goggles and lasers that United States military officials said were either stolen from Afghan and international troops or bought on the black market.

Interesting development, or is the Times making a story out of nothing?

It was the CIA with the night vision. False flagging us into yet another senseless middle-east/asian war. This is why fascism is the answer and liberalism is a cancer.

There was a video a couple years ago when ISIS was first starting to get media attention of some of them kitted the fuck out and kidnapping/assassinating officials. I remember they made one of them and his son dig their own graves is all I can remember to guide you to it though

>that gif
surprisingly hillarious

April Fools - The CIA pretending to be Taliban

>or bought on the black market.
lmao do americans think everything "military" can only be gotten from "le black market"?

you can buy nvgs on fucking amazon

>implying achmed does not "loose" his 2000 dollars of free gear uncle sam gave him to defend his country in exchange for 3 goats

most Iraq troops that got issued m16a3s sold them on the black market and bought an ak and a bunch of swag

>you can buy nvgs on fucking amazon
what is ITAR... unless you want to get super fucked for exporting controlled items to another country you cannot sell outside of the united states. on the other hand, government shipments to corrupt regimes in other countries go missing all the time. you can buy all kinds of stuff in markets in Iraq and all across the middle east

WHOS THROWING THE WEIGHTS??

>Big govt spooks are doing bad shit
>i know the solution, let's make an even bigger and coercive govt!
holy fucking shit Jow Forumskids are so delusional

Your self-boasting is meaningless, you can buy NV on Amazon and you can do so without violating ITAR the same way you can buy from numerous other vendor sites.

This is an American site, assume user is US unless other specified you newfag gq-licking fuck.

ITAR, brainlet

I just want to keep watching the girl squat. She's hot.

Why would the CIA need NODS when they already glow in the dark?

I'd totally let her bRAAAP all over my face

Holy shit! The Taliban have discovered ebay, and amazon.

>squats

>""""stolen"""""

>Boo Hoo ITAR isn't actually doing anything

Well no fucking shit, Afghanistan shares a small land border with China and also borders 3 ex-soviet states with access to modern Russian arms.

China and Russia make Gen 3 NV and IR LAD's

It's a prime reason why ITAR is fucking dumb and poorly thought out Cold War garbage.

ITAR is outdated and nothing more than domestic arms control at this point, it's poorly contrived cold war garbage when it comes to small arms tech.
Basically - when it comes to infantry technology, the US only has an advantage in mass fielding of modern body armors and NV/thermals.
Everyone has access to NV/Thermal, they all have man portable drones now, it's why it's fucking stupid that ITAR was expanded to small arms and small arms systems

Afghani's can easily obtain NV and IR lasers off of Alibaba/China or modern Russian kit from Ex-Soviet sources

Old news - the Taliban can barely be bothered to actually attack the Afghan Army any more, because they can just buy whatever they want straight from the units. And how strange is it anyway, when most of the soldiers have close relatives in the Taliban? Plus half the soldiers on the army rolls are just ghosts anyway, existing as a way for the top brass to siphon off paychecks - and 'issued' gear they can sell off.

It happens I've talked to Rangers that said if they saw someone with Nods they would just shoot on sight.

>CIA gave NV goggles and scopes to al nursa/al qaida in syria
>OMG where are the Taliban getting this shit!!

same with atgms

>This is an American site
try again

>Plus half the soldiers on the army rolls are just ghosts anyway, existing as a way for the top brass to siphon off paychecks - and 'issued' gear they can sell off.
Is this true? If so, why are the Americans unable to stop it?

>What is ITAR?
Something that doesn't apply to a guy in Afghanistan ordering from a vendor in Russia/China.

Wait, you think the only people making NVGs are in the US?

>Is this true? If so, why are the Americans unable to stop it?
Remember that guy who got court martialed for beating an afghan officer who was fucking little boys because his job was to support the afghan army, not do the right thing ethically?

>Wait, you think the only people making NVGs are in the US?
no, I am talking about AMERICAN nvgs, the only way to get american ones are buy them on the black market, on the open market nobody cares where they come from

>group funded by intelligence agencies is well equipped

whoa.......

Every iteration of foreign invasion in Afghanistan only causes natural selection to weed out the unfit and weak among the people there. Do it enough times and if one day they get afflicted by a charismatic Leader, the world will tremble.

Not surprising in the least.

Here's the thing- the enemy doesn't need nightvision that's as good as our stuff. They just need enough night vision to pick up all of our IR strobes and lasers.

When I was in Afghanistan, I noticed that a lot of units had really terrible IR discipline. The assumption was that we had complete tech dominance, so units would go out lit up like IR christmas trees with everybody carrying a strobe or an activated IR chemlite, and guys throwing up big swaths of IR flashlight illumination. An insurgent doesn't need great gear to see that. Some cheapshit digital gen 2 equivalent from China is more than enough.

The units I worked with most closely and often had a lot of dismounted experience, and they were very strict about IR discipline. The amount of success had at night was dramatically different compared to missions with IR undisciplined units attached.

And yes, there is a lot of infiltration and corruption in the ANA. The fact that quality issued NVG and lasers passed hands is not surprising either.

This is nothing new
Kurds have been saying for years that Hadj has NVGs, nobody cared
NYTIMES says it, everyone loses their minds
You're a moron

The nature of the relationship between the US and Pakistan is a mystery to me. Would it be accurate to say that Pakistan both supports the Taliban, and sometimes works with the US to some extent (like for the Osama raid?) Head scratcher for me.

I wish this would happen at the gym

Pakistan works for whoever Pakistan deems convenient for Pakistan at the time.

Ahhh yes

>I am talking about AMERICAN nvgs
Ok. The article doesn't say they're using exclusively American NVGs.

you can buy IR lasers and NVGs off Chinese amazon

I believe an article two years ago said most were though

Supposedly they don’t like Chinese ones because they fit differently.

t. May be wrong

What's the story here?

Ooooh. Aen't you special

>the only way to get american ones are buy them on the black market,

Oh, for fucks sake. You can get them at the bazaar in Peshawar. The fuckin' Paki's stole enough from the convoys.

that's fucked up
i'd rather they be texting than taking up a machine or equipment
