I mean if you want that much penetration, great. FBI recommends less than that for optimal stopping power. And if youre worried about barriers you shouldnt be using HP anyway

Hollow points are a meme

>that wound cavity
This is why no one takes 9mm seriously

>optimal stopping power
So whats more important, penetration or expansion?

Remember that the FBI also stated that there's no real difference between all common handgun calibers, say nothing of the same caliber ingested different brands of ammo.

IMO, if shot placement is King that you want to hit them either in something very vital like the heart, or the central nervous system. Now the spine on a human is located in the back, otherwise known as "the other side of the body". And the spinal cord is covered in bone, so if you're going to deal with that you need a lot of penetration, and expansion wont really matter

>I mean if you want that much penetration, great. FBI recommends less than that for optimal stopping power.

IIRC the FBI likes 15", but 18" is really good, especially with .6"+ perm cavity.

Pic is my current CC ammo, what does Jow Forums think of 135 grain Hornady Critical Duty +P?

My LGS shilled it a bit

Don't talk out of your ass.
12 to 18 inches of penetration is ideal.

It's the only defense ammo in 9mm Makarov my local Cabela's stocks, so it's what I carry.

It’s good. The polymer tip makes it moderately more likely to expand. I prefer heavier bullets so I like middle of the weight range and above but there is no “right”’or “wrong” weight per se. look at the 9bple for instance. It’s light but it’s outstanding

Back in the day Hornady did super scumfuck tier stuff with their original Critical Defense line. They lied about test results, when it was independently tested to FBI standards Hornady laughed at the idea of needing to shoot through a car door because their rounds sucked at it. The later updated Critical Duty line didn't perform very well. The 124gr Critical Duty that they first came out with failed to expand frequently in bare gel, and was woefully unimpressive.
The polymer tip has literally never been shown to actually work better than any well designed JHP mouth. To the contrary it has been tested and shown that Critical Defense and Critical Duty both fail more often than other rounds to expand when penetrating heavy denim.

The 135gr 9mm load now is a bit better, but I still wouldn't ever buy it. Hornady shouldn't be receiving any money for this stupid gimmick design. HST, Gold Dots, and DPX are tried and true reliable performers.

Hornady should stick to rifle bullets. XTPs were apparently the peak of their ability to make JHPs.

Hornady makes the absolute worst JHP's for self defence, truly a meme tier round.

>polymer filled hasnt been shown to have more reliable expansion

Interesting. Sauce?

>Hornady makes the absolute worst JHP's for self defence, truly a meme tier round.
This. That shit doesn't expand.

I don't know how the fuck does this company make a profit selling the shittiest of the shitty ammo. Consumers really are fucking morons for falling for their marketing.
Every Hornady ammo test that I've ever seen has shown them to be completely mediocre rounds that are bested by cheap range ammo.

Its what I carry for protection in my g19 daily. I shot 100 rounds of it before I decided to keep a mag and chamber loaded with it on the regular and all of it cycled and shot just fine between 1-25 yards without any issues. I know there are better products out there but 135gr is on the heavier side of 9mm ammo. Generally speaking the faster a round is moving the more it will expand and the less it will penetrate. I wanted something a bit heavier that I felt like would plow through bone and I really dont see this ammo sucking in that department.

Doesnt mean I don't worry about missing though. I can vouch for these things being mostly barrier blind in the 135gr variety as they expanded really nicely at the range in water jugs after passing through some 2x4s

>imagine dying to a meme bullet
Insult to injury? Kinda like carrying

typical peanut butter

Also, I didnt have the exansion problems that other people are claiming, but im not calling them liars either. Shoot a few of yours and find out for yourself.

Multiple decades of duty ammo being tested to consistent standards.
DocGKR has tested multiple lots in multiple calibers. Lucky Gunner Labs independently tested it as well and saw poor performance as well.

Even a .22 will go all the way through a person, penetration of modern handgun ammo is not the issue here. Meanwhile if your bullet is .7 inches across it is a lot more likely to strike something vital than a bullet which is .3 inches across

He has no sources. He has a personal bone to pick with hornady for some reason because he took the fbi story to heart and bought a lot of other brands. Probably like gold dots since it just werks

Or you could stop being a low IQ #BLM supporter and reverse image search either of the two images posted, you retarded Wakanda resident.

>burden of prove is on the negative
get a load of these brainlets. its hornadys job job to prove the polymer tip is better than standard hollow points. they have had years to do so and they havent.
Fact of the matter is winchester ranger t bonded(PDX) and Federal HST are better, thats why they are used by FBI and almost every law enforcement agency in the country.

ballistics and overpenetration is a meme. The human is only a few inches wide anyways. Cavity wounds is what is most important.

>ballistics gel is a direct equivalent to human tissue
you're a fucking idiot

where the fuck did I say that??? I said that people aren't that penetration doesn't matter, and that cavity wounds are more important.
